Front brakes

Is there a recognised best/cheapest place to get new disks and pads? TLO?

Typically I'd been speaking to a mate about the D3 as he's looking to get one, and mentioned how they apparently were hard on the brakes but there was nowt wrong with mine, only to start getting a grinding sound from the front on the way home that night... having looked, it appears that the passenger front pad has pretty much gone, as there is what looks like rust all over the alloy now.

TLO is best if you want OEM parts. I just changed mine with Britpart drilled and slotted discs and EBC Greenstuff pads from Paddocks with free delivery, appears to be better than OEM at present.

You finding the greenstuff pads to be okay?

Have used EBC pads on other cars before, were okay on one, but had some red stuff pads on another and they were awful.

been fine so far, if you look at the EBC website it explains the difference between them all, maybe the ones you had weren't suited to your needs????

Yeah, I know the differences between them, the redstuff were meant to be ideal for it, but we crap when cold, and didn't take that long to wear down either (knew someone with the same car who did a few laps of knockhill with them and they effectively crumbled away to nothing afterwards).

But if the greenstuff ones seem fine on the D3 that's good enough for me... away to put the order in now Smile

The worst part of the job is making sure you have the correct type of socket and Torx key, first time I tried this I had to reassemble twice to go and get the right tools. Whistle Whistle Since then it is very simple. Thumbs Up

Lack of a garage big enough to work inside and the weather we are currently having, mean I might end up sticking it in somewhere to get done, but I already have a copy of the bible in case the weathers better... will double check I have the right bits before I start to avoid a lot of hassle then Smile
