Front Plate Holder

Hi All,

Pending delivery of my new-to-me D4 HSE later this week, and I wanted to know about the reg plate holder on the front. I have a cherished plate that I will be putting on, 5 characters, and currently run a shorten plate (legal font and spacing).

However, the front bumper has a full size plate mount/holder fitted, which will look odd with a short plate on it. I would prefer a short plate, and could stick it where the plate holder sits on the bumper. What I wanted to know is how is the holder fitted, and can it be easily removed (should I ask the dealer to do this before delivery)? If it is screwed in, then it will leave holes which my plate won't hide if they are towards the extremes of the holder, in which case I will stump for a full size plate.

So, any advice, much appreciated!

Won't it look add with a short plate anyway? Would possibly be tidier to just use a full size plate..... Thumbs Up
Is this your 1st discovery or have you had other before?

I was thinking that, but given I have the short plate from my car, no harm in trying. On my car, i prefer the shorter plate, the letters don't seem lost in a sea of white/yellow. I could be wrong on the disco (also wondering if the rear would look odd with a short plate and not a double line one).

This is my first Disco, in fact my first LR product ever. Looking forward to it!

Short plate looks fine on mine, but there are other things on the bumper so it is on the grill. Picture in gallery!

Thanks for all the posts chaps. Is the D3 and D4 bumper the same height in that area where you fitted the plates?

Anybody know how the D4 holder is fitted and if removing it leaves screw holes?

looking at the plates for example in the US, there must be another solution for short plates. I'm looking as well, need to talk to my dealer to see what other nations have. There must be something short for the D4. Smile

The D4 bumper is quite different to the D3. The plinth is mounted onto a black plastic section of the bumper, so it may be easy to hide any holes exposed if you remove it. I can't tell you where the mounts are, because I have never removed mine.

The brochure pictures all show the D4 without any holder on the front, which shows it can be removed, but I think it gets screwed from the front into the bumper, and these fixings are then hidden by the actual number plate/or the reverse of this, from the back of bumper through into the holder. Either way, if that is the case, and the screws are in the corners, a short plate taped to the same area of the bumper won't hide those holes, and I don't really want to have to fill them etc.

I will prob call the dealer in the morning and see what they say.

As suspected, the dealer said he believes they are screwed on and would leave holes if removed.

Damn it, guess I will stick to a full size plate in that case. Fingers crossed for delivery now, Thursday can't come quick enough!

I have got short plates on my D4 and the front is fitted to a plinth that is screwed to the bumper. Unfortunately LR put the mounting screws in the corners of the plinth so even with the plinth removed there are 4 screw holes behind that aren't covered by the shorter plate Sad . Also the my car has previously had the front plate screwed on to the plinth but the screws go all the way through into the bumper Banging Head so with the plinth removed there are a total of 8 holes visible in the bumper even with the plate fitted. So i have decided to order a new plinth (minus the screw holes) and fit that with the short plates
Will get some better pics out of the garage in the daylight

That is what I thought was the case. I like the short plate, but it looks lost on the plinth. A quick fix would be to remove the plinth, and have that section of the bumper wrapped to hide the holes, then simply fix the short plate with tape.

I like the rear look short plate too, will put mine on when the car arrives and transfer is sorted!
