On my old Jag I used to have a jittery start problem, especially on a cold start and a bit of black smoke.

I did a service and filled the fuel filter up with liqui Molly diesel purge and topped the rest up in the tank. Worked like a dream and must have given the injectors a good clean. Jittery start went and also smoke.

You can also use it as an additive to the tank.

I normally get one before MOT.

I always use AVIA around the corner, cheapest in town. Travelling to Portugal I always
plan to fill up at either Esso Express or BP, or Shell Express. This because the supers
lard their fuels with alcohol and the D3 doesn't like that : holes are burned in the pistons..

Never put any additive in, saved me thousands €€€€€€ Mr. Green

This Dipetane looks interesting. I've been using Archoil 6900 D-Max, which looks similar to Dipetane.
I think the idea is that it reduces the components that cause carbon to build up in the first place, as well as cleaning up the deposits that are already there, although don't quote me as I am not an expert.
From what I've read, some additives are little more than snake oil. Thumbs Up

I believe you are correct, it is supposed to be close to a pure hydrocarbon. The idea being it raises the combustion temperature providing a hotter burn which is supposed to reduce soot, carbon, and other exhaust waste.

Not an expert either, but whatever it is, its doing something I like Very Happy

..I do that without additives.. .. just do a trip after 7pm and I can drive 138kmh in real speed without getting a fine..
.. or drive about 50 minutes and enter German Autobahn and go warp speed..

All the dirt burns as a miracle... Rolling with laughter

Someone on here used "gun cleaning thinners" to do the same thing.

I have been using this in 5ltr for some years now mainly for diesel vehicles prior to their annual emissions tests.

I was very sceptical, snake oil and such, but I could immediately see the smoke tests where much cleaner with it added to the tank. I then began adding it to each tank of Diesel in the D3, and in my case the MAP sensor has become spotless since, as is the inlet manifold and plenum. (EGR's not blanked)

I can flog the guts out of it and there's not a puff of black smoke. I add about 350 ml to a fill from empty.
One other notable benefit is that in about 8 years not a single Diesel I have sent for its annual test has failed on emissions! 5 ltrs costs around €36 and 1 ltr about €10

I have no personal interest or association with this product. Even so, I can do nothing less than commend it highly.

Just bought some and put it in the tank, it looks faster already Mr. Green
Actually not driven it yet.

What,to clean injectors or create potholes?
Gun thinners would deffo be great for burning potholes in tarmac Laughing

The guy mentioned using gunwash, ie the cheapest thinnners going and putting a litre into the fuel tank, not sure such a good idea with a common rail lump where fuel lube is quite important.

Well its in with a fresh tank of fuel and I reckon there may be somehting in it as it does seem more responsive, BUT I have just serviced the engine and changed the gearbox oil so it could just be a placebo effect?

Probably placebo, can't say I ever noticed an improvement in power. Still a few weeks or months should yield you improvements in exhaust and manifold gunk.
