Fuel additives

Just wondering what people's views are on fuel additives. I used to put some in my old Disco, but after spilling some on on my temporary doorstep and seeing it dissolve I thought Censored hell!
On the other hand after seeing the state of a cylinder head off my mate's Mustang that he bought recently I think I might start using some again Thumbs Up

Millers Diesel Power Ecomax does appear to work but I can’t prove it.
It stinks though and it’s a pain to use.
I buy Shell diesel almost exclusively.

Interestingly we haven’t had much debate on 2 stroke added to fuel, that was all the rage a few years ago. Confused

I used 2S in the D3. It could well have been a placebo affect, but it did seem better.

I ran it to c.150k miles and it’s still going strong.

I realize most people here have a diesel but since there’s a small chance the mustang owner has a proper engine I’ll chime in... Whistle

I pour a can of BG 44K into a full fuel tank gasoline on every oil change - so every 10k km. JLR approves although they say max 2x during 25K miles (so every 12k km). Engine feels smoother.

I was hoping someone might have had an engine to bits to see if additives actually work or not. I've heard rumours that they can cause premature seal failures, but that maybe just an old wives tale.
My mates Mustang looked as if someone had poured liquorice in all the important places!

I have been using this in 5ltr for some years now mainly for diesel vehicles prior to their annual emissions tests.
https://www.iaaf.co.uk/news-item/dipetane-...s-honestly

I was very sceptical, snake oil and such, but I could immediately see the smoke tests where much cleaner with it added to the tank. I then began adding it to each tank of Diesel in the D3, and in my case the MAP sensor has become spotless since, as is the inlet manifold and plenum. (EGR's not blanked)

I can flog the guts out of it and there's not a puff of black smoke. I add about 350 ml to a fill from empty.
One other notable benefit is that in about 8 years not a single Diesel I have sent for its annual test has failed on emissions! 5 ltrs costs around €36 and 1 ltr about €10

I have no personal interest or association with this product. Even so, I can do nothing less than commend it highly.

This Dipetane looks interesting. I've been using Archoil 6900 D-Max, which looks similar to Dipetane.
I think the idea is that it reduces the components that cause carbon to build up in the first place, as well as cleaning up the deposits that are already there, although don't quote me as I am not an expert.
From what I've read, some additives are little more than snake oil. Thumbs Up
