Fuel Burn Heater Not Working |
|
Well it's got cold and the fuel burn heater is not kicking in . The temperature was showing as 0 deg on the dash so it should have started.
Reading through old threads, I've tried resetting it by:-
Opening the bonnet
letting the car go to sleep (approx. 15 mins)
Unpluging the power connector (lower right) for 1 hour
Plugging it back in
Starting the car
Wait a few mins to see if it starts
But still nothing.
Am I going through the right steps to reset it?
Is there something else I can try?
Or is it the 50 mile round trip to the stealers?
Any guidence would be appreciated.

The only other circumstance to stop it firing would be if ther low fuel warning lamp is on, or the battery has low volts.

Or if the coolant is already above the min temp - from a previous trip ? "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Yep, or if the outside air temp is above 5 degrees.

2/3 of a tank of fuel, engine not stone cold but had been sat for a couple of hours in 0 deg with the bonnet up so I should think cold enough. Battery about 11.5 volts.
Off to the dealer it is then.
Thanks guys.

I think that is above the cut-off threshold for the FBH though.

This 'Fuel Burning Heater', is this bit of kit standard or an optional extra when you spec the vehicle?? You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.

I'll get an opinion on the battery from the dealer as well when I take it in then.

Cheers 90
Best get the op manual out & see how it works! You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.

It's automatic, unless you have fitted an after market remote / timer control device . . . . "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Well the plot thickens.
I had a meeting today just round the corner from the dealer in Chesterfield.
On spec I dropped in and they agreed to have a look at the FBH whilst I was at my meeting.
They plugged it in and no fault codes (I must have been sucessful with erasing them or there were none in the first place and I have run the car when it should have fired up since I reset it) and they could get the heater to fire up as it should by pushing values in.
Thus, they could find nothing wrong.
The only suggestion that they had was to leave the car with them overnight so they could try it in the morning when it was cold.
I can only think that there must be a sensor fault with either the ambient temp or the coolant temp but both of them show reasonable values in the car by way of the temp gauge and the outside temp (assuming that these are the same sensors).
So.. Does anyone know where the FBH gets its values from and where the sensors are? Also I assume that they must be thermocouples that have a variable resistance depending on the temp, do we know what sort of values they should read at the turn on point so I can do a quick resistance test on them to see if they are above or below that value? And just check that there is no visible damage to the sensor and that the connector is plugged in correctly.
By the way thanks to Guy Salmon Chesterfield for having a look at the car on spec.
