I operate my FBH using an Altox remote control via my phone. Not that I have ever used it much. Just changed the Altox unit Sim card and called it up to test start the heater. I could hear the heater unit ticking for a while but nothing else and it didn't start.
I think its time to take the heater out for a service which has never been done as far as I know. I do have a query though. The Disco was asleep when I tried to start the heater so everything was off. When firing up the heater from the asleep state how does the heater get fuel? There was not a hint of smoke which is most unusual as it normally kills every insect in close proximity. 2011 D4 HSE, it'll be nice if it ever works!

My old 2005 D3. Now sold after 362000 on the original engine!

A diagnostic loom might help you see what is going on, although the Altox unit should give you the fault codes via the app or SMS query?

The Webasto heater is self-contained and controlled, and it has its own fuel pump. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

I see, thanks for that. I'm showing fault codes W7, 3 & 6. So before I do anything I'll go and pull fuse 28 and see if I can unlock it 2011 D4 HSE, it'll be nice if it ever works!

Tried a reset but still only getting a clock ticking noise for a few seconds and nothing else. Getting fault codes 24, 3 and 6 now which is strange as the disco is full of fuel. I wonder if it needs priming and, if so, how do you do that? 2011 D4 HSE, it'll be nice if it ever works!

Sounds like your reset has worked but the FBH is still faulting which locks it out again. 
Two options:
Diagnostic loom and see what's going on
Or
Strip it, clean it, refit it and hope for the best.  Mods:

I'll probably end up doing both, I have the test loom still in the bag somewhere. Best track down a service kit for the heater. 2011 D4 HSE, it'll be nice if it ever works!
