It doesn't go wrong often More often peeps just don't understand the conditions upon which it's supposed to work 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

To be fair DG is right, it just seems to come up in topic as the winter bites..
I can't remember exactly but it think to activate automatically on start up it has to be less than 4c and you have to have at least a quater tank of fuel.
There's a little exhaust in the passenger side wheel arch, when its running you can just see the fumes exhausting.
Mine sounds like a jet when its running, and if its a short trip you can hear it go into a cool down cycle when you turn the car off.
I've read lots on here about getting it reset if it fails to start. Some even fit a remote start to warm the car before you get in it.
Its rarely that cold here in the deep southwest so I've never looked into that kit.
Have a search on here for FBH or first smoke. It's quite impressive when they purge start it.. I think there's a YouTube video of that. It should operate at 5 degrees C or less, so long as the engine coolant temp is below 75 C and the low fuel warning light is not on, and the battery voltage is high enough.
It will cause smell and smoke from the front of the vehicle, often people mistake it for a fire under the car. It does warm the car up quickly on a cold start.
You can modify it to to remotely operate to warm the engine before you get in to it.
If you do have it purged, it does look pretty spectacular!
Mine fired up this morning, for the first time in a number of weeks. Is winter here again !Club N.E.R.D's

Mine seems to emit smoke/condensing vapour from the driver side wheel arch (a 56 plater).
A slight breeze blowing it across or something else?with a occasional Bailey Unicorn Valencia tintent
...and an equally black SL350

4 degrees here this morning, so popped the bonnet and started her, nothing happened to begin with, then the FBH kicked in - so looks like mine is working....it then stopped after a few moments as the temp hit 7 degrees

@triarii: Behaving as expected.
If you look just in front of the NSF wheel, you should see the exhaust pipe for it.

Mine doesn't go wrong often, not anymore. It went wrong once too many times and got left wrong, more hassle than it's worth.
