Drivers door trim - wont stay on the car

Does anyone have any tips on how to convince the bit of trim at the bottom of the drivers door (exterior) to stay attached to the door?

I have re-fitted it with brand new clips 3 times now and even paid the garage to re-fit it.. but each time it pops off again. It always first comes loose at the corner on the handle side of the door then progresses until the whole thing is off.

I have a similar problem..... I just keep refitting it !

Next time I'm considering a wee blob of 'no more nails' between yellow and white clips

Yeah I think no more nails would probably let go when it gets wet .. I have also tried using exterior silicone and more recently an epoxy putty called 'milliput' ... still wont hold.

On my D3. Mine kept coming off and cured by fitting new complete clips, both halves, to the trim then attaching the whole, to the holes in the door. One half of clip in the door & other half in the trim would not latch together properly. Not sure if D4 is the same .

yes i have used new clips but they just pop apart again

Then you say pop out, do you mean the two clip halves ?

as far as I remember clips holding those are two piece and if you only replace clips on the trim side they would pop due to other part of the clip aint tight enough so you got to remove clips from the door put new ones in as well as plastic trim side part and reinstall
it should hold than

yes the clips are in two parts... yellow on the door and white on the trim. They come as one complete clip but the problem im having is they keep popping apart. Once they are apart they can be pushed back together but they rarely hold and need to be replaced. I have tried to 'stick' them together but this hasnt worked. I have tried simply replacing the clips entirely and so has my local garage (rules out my batch of clips being the problem) via the following process ... remove the yellow part of the clip from the door, remove the white part of the clip from the trim. Mount new complete clips onto the trim then remount onto the door.

Here's the trim ready to refit with yet another set of new clips...

Sikaflex is what I had to glue mine on with as I did same as you several times and still kept coming away.
Been in situ perfectly ever since and that was around 18 months ago Thumbs Up

You only appear to be using yellow clips, as originally fitted . 3 of these clips were subsequently replaced by a black type, 2 at the handle end. 1 poster has suggested using 4. See AF for details of replacement clips and search forum for location picture

Sikaflex is the original moisture cure PU windscreen sealer.
Good stuff Owner of a 2010 Discovery 4 XS.
Plus a Mitsubishi Outlander (don’t ask...)
