Fuel consumption

Hello friends,

Just to let u all know that my disco 4 which I bought 10 days back with 950 kms on the clock is really bad on fuel consumption, it gives me only 5 kms per litres diesel, and iam all alone driving the vehicle without towing or anyone else in the vehicle, I was just wondering if this was normal or is there any chances that I could do anything to better the fuel consumption. Cheers.

What were you expecting? I think your 5l/100km's equates to about 23 miles per gallon, so if your doing short journeys, up and down hill (as I would expect you are in Katmandhu) then thats not bad.

I get 5l/100km to equal 56.5mpg which would be amazing!

However the post says he's getting 5km/l which i recon is about 14mpg which is very poor! I'm getting about 26mpg day to day driving up and down the dales. It sounds like there's something wrong if you're only getting 5km/l. Big Cry

5 km's per litre. Yes my typo! However....

1 gallon = 4.55 litres.

5 x 4.55 = 22.75

5km = 3.10685 miles
1l = 0.219969 gallons

so 5km per litre = 3.10685 miles per 0.219969 gallons = 3.10685 divided by 0.219969 = 14.12mpg

There's something wrong with his car!

5km/3.105 miles/ltr = 14.12mpg. Probably about right at altitude, wouldn't have thought nothing other than heavy urban type driving. Gadimai, what sort of driving?

Hey DSL here we have a lot of stop and go traffic plus can't drive in high speed Atleast not in the city, We do have
Lots of uphill and downhill here, I don't know how much this contributes to the bad fuel economy but iam really worried and tensed, can u suggest anyways to better the fuel economy.

Sounds about what I'd expect, not sure there's much you could do to improve it in those conditions. Fault codes might indicate if something is wrong, otherwise you could spend a fortune speculatively changing bits to see no difference.

Automatic gearbox (no choice I know), altitude, stop/start driving & little or no high speed driving - I'm not really surprised.

Compare notes with other D4 users in Katmandhu, or even D3s & see what they are achieving.

Good luck.

No one here complaining about their Diesel consumption (D4). My Petrol D4 uses less fuel about town.

Quite inexpensive compared to UK.

The increase from 0.22US$ in 1996 to 0.91US$ per litre today must hurt though!
