I recently purchased a HPFP remanufactured by Siemens VDO and fitted it myself, took a day to do with plenty of coffee breaks. It cost me £360 with a refundable surcharge of £60, it has a years warranty which is the same as a new one.
I had previously replaced the LPFP which took about 4 hours.

| Fuel pressure control valve stuck open |

Hi All, my disco 3 won’t start, it wants to (does on easy start) but doesn’t seem like it’s getting enough fuel, so I had an Indy read the fault codes for me. Can’t remember the fault codes but 2 relate to the engine. FPCV is stuck open, which means the fuel is being pumped back in to the tank and an expected corresponding low fuel pressure fault. This all makes sense to me. My question is this, can the fuel pressure control/regulator valve be replace separately or do I have to replace the entire HPFP and a question to JP0650, where did you get your refurbished pump from, I’m a bit weary of buying one off flea bay. LPFP is working perfectly and I’ve just fitted a new filter and primed the system.

One of the pressure relief valves is fitted innthe fuel tank Andrew
D3 2.7tdv6 2005

Thanks for your quick reply guys. PF Jones is who I was looking at. Probably worth spending a few quid on a pressure testing valve to double check the LP side before lashing out on a HPFP.

Have you got fuel at the schreader valve on the top of the engine when the ignition is on but without the engine running? There should be a steady flow, initially I didn’t so I replaced the LPFP first but still had issues, I then replaced the pressure sensor on the fuel rail but still no joy.
I went for the remanufactured HPFP, it comes with the same warranty as a new one.

Hi, yes I’ve got fuel/pressure at the Schroeder valve. On 2 cycles of the ignition I got about 1 litre of fuel out from LP side. To my surprise it was red !!! My first encounter with red diesel. The previous owner on V5 was a lady in Central London. I don’t suspect the seller I bought it from was being honest. Things just aren’t adding up. Anyway I’ve got it now so soldier on.

You can buy the pressure control valve and also the Volume Control valve seperately at PF Jones.
And the red Diesel in tank seems to be house heating oil.......

Heating oil ??? From a new build house in Wandsworth?
Whatever it is I’ll drain it but it’s nearly quarter of a tank.
Probably worth doing anyway to check the LP pump filter.

High pressure fuel pump changed.
Got it to start but wasn’t running properly.
I then did some further digging and the label on the side of the fuse box looked decidedly new.
The chart on the inside of the box lid was missing so with some browsing found one online.
Several relays and fuses were missing. Looks like someone put in a new fuse box from a petrol variant.
Replaced fuses and relays and she started on the button and purred like a kitten 
I noticed the fuel tank bolts were also loose so took the tank out to find out what else had been butchered.
Found a knackered prop shaft center bearing while I was there.
Pulled the low pressure fuel pump to checked filter which wasn’t too bad but found some shinny metal filings which I imagine came from the failed high pressure fuel pump.
The tank is now clean and back in. Just need to put some fuel it. My Rescue vehicle is a Hilux 🤪

I have my tank off currently - is it possible to clean the filter in the tank without taking the pump out or do you take the whole thing out?
