It's an untruth to be perfectly honest which might be why you don't understand it, I'll explain.
During the general strike of 1926, Wigan was a large mining town and all the miners downed tools. However, as the strike dragged on and the miners families started to starve, many were forced to return to work and thus eat "humble pie". This is why, today, Wiganers are known as pie eaters.
This is often misunderstood as them actually preferring to eat a lot of pies, so it is presumed the residents are somewhat fat. Hence the incorrectly advised picture and the reason you don't understand it.
In more modern times Wigan is home to the World Pie Eating Championship which I understand is an annual event.

I would send you some my friend if i though they would survive the trip . I buy them direct from the bakery where I live. They know me quite well now as I take them to camps with the lads on here and distribute them to the boys. They also come with extra gravy injected in :thumbsup:Narpy will tell you what they taste like The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
