Interesting
I liked this bit:
Land Rover had a proven track record of creating vehicles that
stood the test of time: that their aesthetic was set apart from other
vehicles as a result of their functionality, and as a consequence
they stood apart from other vehicles Where aesthetics and style
played a part.
Somehow that seems to have been forgotten these days ...

An interesting read.
I personally liked the D3 from the first look. The styling cues from D1 & D2 are all there in a much better package, retaining the boxy shape but smoothing all the lines with the flush glazing etc.
It still looks good today, IMO and in some ways the less blinged up D3 is nicer than a D4. I'm not going to mention the design mess that is D5 - oh-oh I just did!
Thanks for sharing, dgardel.

I like D1 - was so different when launched, even the removable 'handbag' on the centre console. The engine was rough, the gearbox was cr@p. Had a couple as company cars.
I like the D2 - many improvements but time caught up with it on drivetrain for performance and smoothness IMO. Had a few as company cars.
I like the D2 face-lift - good chance I'll have one of these again at some point. Was one of my favourite company cars for a long-time (until D3 came along)
I like D3 - had many as company cars and even bought one of my own. Performance was good for such a big beast. As capable doing the family holiday with two dogs, bikes on back and huge roof-box and then being 'posh' after a run through the car-wash.
I like D4 (the most) - added just the right amount of luxury to the mix for me
I like D5 - not the rear number-plate and if/when I have one a 'Euro size' two line 'plate will be affixed to the rear - makes all the difference IMO. Now at RR level of luxury. Wish the 3.0d had the 300bhp of the RRS/F-Pace. Better still the 4.4d from the RRS. Would be a no-brainer choice for me to have one again if they did.

We are not far enough into the future to be able to look back on the design of the D5 to say that it was not an excellent design.
I imagine if you ferret around whatever forums D1 and D2 owners were using in about 2003/04 they would have been horrified at the new D3.
Some actually still are D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven
My daughter and her boyfriend are doing Graphics Design at university. This was an interesting read for a Land Rover enthusiast but have forwarded to them in case it could assist them in their approach and thinking.Tony

I personally think the D3 is a design icon, Landrover got the Practicality and luxury perfect I love the look of the original D3's way more than my bling D4. I didn't care for the D1,2 I was an Audi nut but the day I opened the paper and saw the picture of it I wanted one it looked brilliant I new I was buying one.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
MY12 HSE - Gone
MY16 HSE Luxury - Sold
MY20 D5 HSE - Sold
