Generation Z is intimidated by full stops !!

You wouldn't believe it ! Banging Head

Quote:
Full stops have fallen out of fashion with young people because they 'signify an abrupt or angry tone of voice'

Full stops have become the latest casualty of youthful sensitivity as experts say they can be “intimidating”.

Teenagers and those in their early twenties, Generation Z, believe that the punctuation mark has fallen out of fashion and become a symbol of curt passive-aggression.

Hmmm Telegraph seem to forget that they blamed similar on instant messaging in 2016

In text messages

Researchers from Binghamton University performed a small study, published in 2016, on young adults and found that text messages that included sentences ended with full stops—as opposed to those with no terminal punctuation—were perceived as insincere, though they stipulated that their results apply only to this particular medium of communication: "Our sense was, is that because [text messages] were informal and had a chatty kind of feeling to them, that a period may have seemed stuffy, too formal, in that context," said head researcher Cecelia Klin.[46] The study did not find handwritten notes to be affected.[47]

A 2016 story by Jeff Guo in The Washington Post, stated that the line break had become the default method of punctuation in texting, comparable to the use of line breaks in poetry, and that a period at the end of a sentence causes the tone of the message to be perceived as cold, angry or passive-aggressive.[48]

According to Gretchen McCulloch, an internet linguist, using a full stop to end messages is seen as "rude" by more and more people. She said this can be attributed to the way we text and use instant messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. She added that the default way to break up one's thoughts is to send each thought as an individual message.

Noted Rich. but punctuation really is important - take these sentences, with and without commas in the right place:-

Let’s eat Del. Whistle

Let’s eat, Del.

they do not use "please" or "thanks" either.
The real issue is us, the parents, we have failed them and let society go down the crapper.

And some can't even put together a report - one of my colleagues upset a member of Generation Z when they submitted a ten page report that had over a thousand spelling mistakes, in addition to a few hundred syntax errors and some sections that were totally unreadable (even by another member of Generation Z). My colleague used his red pen to mark and grade (0/10) it.

You miserable Censored s, I bet most of you would fail English GCSE, even Year 6 SPAG tests would stump many, just las when we were kids there were good ones and bad ones, clever ones and thick ones and that still hasn’t changed. 90% or more are polite clever kids and many on here are parents to them and some like Russell’s lad comes on here occasionally. If you really want to see what they are like go and visit your local secondary school and see how you can help them get even better, you may even find you learn lots from them too.

I was helping my Uncle, Jack, off a horse.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
