Mpg will be down to 2 basic things.
Car health, your driving.

Make sure the cars in good order, serviced, gearbox has been serviced, tyres at correct pressures all round, brakes aren’t sticking etc. A remap from BAS or Alive will help make it smoother to drive.

Driving. You sit high up, use that advantage. Read the road ahead, is there junctions or roundabouts coming up? Can you see the other entries, are they clear or are there vehicles on them that may make you slow down or stop? Don’t floor it everywhere, a steadier throttle will help.

Basically, try not to drive like the majority of people who are frankly useless and only react to the front of their bonnet and can’t see past that.

This thread suggested a mechanical solution, but there doesn't seem to be anyone who's tested it on here for real.

Thanks. That's a pity - I thought an engineering solution to pollutants would be better than scrapping perfectly good vehicles.

Ihave tried varying methods of improving MPG without outlay including:
- Just using Flappy Paddles
- Driving in Sport to stop gear changes
- Switch AC off
- Not accelarating quickly
- Cruise control on Motorways

And there was no difference in MPG at all calculated properly, not the cars MPG read out Thumbs Up

I'd second that last post. In any vehicle I've had where PMG has been a concern I can get the best out of it by anticipating ahead, smooth and steady acceleration (let it build up gradually rather than heavy on the accelerator) and good car maintenance (tyre pressures, engine servicing e.t.c.).

I'm regularly getting 32-34 MPG (computer - yeah I know) on my commute into work from Holmfirth to Manchester, and even when traffic is bad like today (2h 20m commute today) I still got 28.9 MPG according to computer.

As per most posts on forums like this, we didn't buy a brick with a large turbo engine to get good MPG but nice to be economical when possible Smile

I don't see why driving a 3t 'brick' and/or having pots of cash, and/or 'what do you expect' should preclude you from trying to improve it. Money in my pocket is better than in someone else's for something that cost's me nothing to do...... Confused

When I had D3 auto' one of the biggest (positive) impacts to fuel consumption was making sure it was in 6th gear rather than 5th. At around 60-65mph I remember unless under 'no load' the gearbox often stayed in 5th and didn't change-up.

Kicking the selector over to 'manual' and changing up to 6th had a positive impact for me (100 mile, each way commute on decent run at 60-70mph generally) of about +10%.

Don't notice it so much on the rotary gear controller later models but I often just 'check' by pulling the flappy paddle to ensure it's in 8th or 9th (depending on car being driven - D5, Ewok, RR, RRS, F-Pace, etc.) - still find it will pull the higher gear cleanly but hasn't changed up

Light right foot together with anticipation. Doesn't mean driving slowly but being aware of potential holdups ahead and not hurtling up to junctions or traffic lights and then wasting the energy getting there by fierce braking. Smooth take offs and gradual acceleration. You find yourself next to the hare at the next hold up in many cases. Over a recent 1700 mile holiday involving all road types and keeping to legal speeds I averaged 32mpg. That was brim to brim not a projected figure from a computer.

MPG is like age. It's just a number and if you concentrate on it too much it ruins your life. Just like age you can do little about it so embrace it and enjoy the journey.

I wouldn't want to arrive in anything else Thumbs Up
