I am a GLASS member, the benefit is that I feel is that organisations like GLASS stand the best chance of us providing a credible opposition to the Ramblers onslaught, to get us banned from the legal rights of way in the countryside.
It is also very useful to get the latest information on the lanes in a particular area before setting out. Ignorance would be no excuse if you were to get prosecuted for driving a closed byway. A simple email to the GLASS rep is all it takes.
There is also a news letter, and they do hold regular meets, and green lane repair days. I have not yet done any of these, but I do intend to in the future.
GLASS needs more members, it is pretty insignificant when you compare it to the tens of thousands of ramblers in the RA, so any support helps.
Be under no illusion, the right to drive ancient highways like we did in Wales the other week, is seriously at risk. Do nothing and they WILL be taken away and the ramblers will then be free to target the next unfortunate group - maybe the horse riders or the mountain bikers.
One thing is for sure, the RA do not compromise. They are ruthless in their single minded approach to total domination and ownership of the countryside.
I intend to buy an old Land Rover in the Spring, and use it for casual off-roading, as since doing the LRE day I've got the bug. My RRS is fantastic off-road, but I leave my wife stranded at home if I take it away for the day.Matt

Well take her with you then Mrs. 10 was 'unconvinced' until the Wales weekend, now she keeps asking when the next one is... although to be fair, that may relate to the hotel bar, not the offroading
Trouble is that then my daughter and the dog then comes too. My daughter is only seven next week, but she is too getting much like my wife - get's bored too quickly and would prefer a day out shopping for clothes instead!Matt

We've had loads of kids, from 18 month upwards, both girls & boys - and they love it!!
The dog we have at the moment doesn't like car journeys but the three previous loved offroading try it, you won't be disappointed
