Glassfibre AV connectors

How does the Glass Fibre cable work in a Disco3? Is it one complete 'ring' or is every unit cannected seperately to its ECU?

I do not know how to explain it in English, but what I want is connecting a new multimedia unit into the glassfibre circuit. Can I take an existing connector and 'split' the glassfibre cable to create an extra connector for this addition?

Just wondering......

The MOST network (fiber optic network in D3) is a 'ring' topology. To add a component with this topology, you disconnect the output of an existing component, connecting it to the input of your new component, then connect the output of your new component to the input of the existing component. Note that the MOST network is 'directional' - there is an input and an output for each device.

Although MOST as a general system allows for any component to be connected to the network, in practice, component software is often programmed with specific expectations of which components are present or not. So, while some people have retrofitted the LR TMC module, for example, I have yet to hear of working non-LR components being added.

If you don't mind me inquiring, what are you trying to fit?

I am working of the Sat Nav retrofit. I have all the connectors, the software to re-program the car and schemes.

I can retrofit it already by replacing the complete wiring (that is a lot of work), but I do want to install the Sat Nav on the existing wiring. The glassfibre cables was my first issue.

Thanks for the reply!
Goswin.

I am fairly certain that all fiber-optic cables in the D3 are available as replacement parts because they can't be repaired - that's how the TMC upgrade can be performed.

I added a diagram of the POF connector (fiber-optic) in my gallery. Be sure to note the arrows on the connector body which show which POF cable is input and which is output.

FYI
Don't use tools to prise off the connector from the component
Don't touch the end of the cable with fingers
Do cover the end of cable when not attached to a component

Good luck! Thumbs Up
