Go Slow

Just used mine for the first time today.

Hmmmmm........ambled to the end of my road and tried to pull out...........luckily very light traffic but snail like acceleration. Checked was in High Ratio and TR knob on normal, no dash warnings but still no go. Drove for about 1/2 mile but couldn't even get upto 30 mph although quite a bit of bluish smoke. Turned round went home.

Left it 10 mins. Started again. Absolutely fine this time Confused

It has never done that before

When this happened did you get any warning lights/messages? It sounds like you didn't Shocked

I thought about the EGR etc, but none of the stuff I thought of makes sense if it all returned to normal after a 'reboot'.

The fact that this happened is rather serious and possibly dangerous....next time I would get LRA involved immediately.

Cheers,

Take it to dealer, hopefully it should have logged error codes if only like throttle input not matched by engine output Embarassed

Mine did this when the EGR valves jammed. Like yours, the fault cleared after I turned off, then restarted the engine. The fault remained logged in the car's computer so if you take it to the dealer, you should get a diagnosis.

Done it again this morning....so little power it won't move!!!!!!!!

Also having funny electrical gremlins with satnav and radio..........

AAArrrrrgggghhhhhh

Eventually it has got me to work but am thinking of calling LRA out (having spoken to dealer) as I think it is now a safety issue as sometimes it works and sometiomes it doesn't and don't want the doesn't to happen when pulling out in front of a truck!!!!!

There should be no doubt in your mind....call LRA from your office and get them to remove the car and leave you a substitute.

It is definitely a safety concern....suddenly being without power on the fast lane of a motorway, or whilst pulling out onto a roundabout full of trucks is not for the faint-hearted.

I wouldn't consider it roadworthy as it is and definitely wouldn't want to risk driving it - that's what LRA is for. Remember that LRA isn't 'free' - it's already been 'paid for' when the D3 was bought new. Don't feel bad about using it when you have a valid reason (as you do!!)

Paul

Definately sounds like EGRs to me. When mine did it, it wouldn't reverse up a slight slope outside our house and couldn't get the engine to rev beyond about 2000 rpm. No fault indications though. Is yours still under warranty? If so, the stealer should fix it FOC.

I have rung LRA, they are coming out to have a look.

It is under extended warranty and fully compliant so should still be covered I hope.

Symptons sound the same, an absolutely complete lack of power or revs. Needed Low Ratio to get off my drive.

Had the same experience this morning. Cruising at 65mph. When I wanted to accelerate, there was no power, like the engine was running out of fuel. Only after changing to fourth gear, and over 2000rpm it started to accelerate slowly. After stopping and restarting the problem was gone.

I'm out of warranty (MY2005), does anybody know what repair would cost? Would removing EGR valves and blanking pipes solve this?
If so, what are the consequenses for emission tests when the car is in for its annual test (APK in the Netherlands, same as MOT, I guess).

Best regards,
Thomas

I think the EGRs effect the NOx levels only. Question

Should do. Mine has much less hesitation all round since the EGRs were blanked and the butterfly valve removed.

Depends on how the tests are carried out. The UK MoT test carries out the emissions test under load when the EGRs are shut anyway so not sure how blanking could ever affect the test result. Your test may differ and test when the EGRs are open so it may affect the result.
