Well as it says SWIMBO has decided we are going to France on holiday. So just wondering what I should take in the line of tools etc. I know I need to take spare lamps and high vis vests.
So any advise would be appretiated many thanks.

Put the hi vis vests on back of seat so plod can see them or you might get stopped for no reason. Take a warning triangle as well. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Full set of spare bulbs too.
ISTR you need a Hi Viz for all adults too, not just the driver.
I hook mine around the seat grab handle  Mark.

You'll need to have your vehicle registration documents with you as well.
Don't forget to adjust your headlights (if you have Xenons), or fit beam-deflectors (if not).
If you have a radar detector, then hide it well! They do NOT like them 
Oh... and a GB sticker on the back if you don't have a Euro-plate with it already on... 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

Do not think so. Last yar when in France several people on site got pulled and asked about hi vis jackets, the only ones that did were the onses with them out of site. All those who had them visable did not have any issues. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Problem in some countries is the fact that you have to wear them outside the car. So if you place them in the boot you break a law while opening the boot to get them. If you carry these vests handy in the interior you don't get into trouble. To avoid getting pulled by the police for checking these things most people place them visible on the back of the seats.

I spend about a quarter of my time in Brittany and I can't recall ever seeing a hi-viz vest on display on someone's seat. Maybe the Breton police are less over-zealous than others?
I keep mine in the side-bins in the back, so technically they are accessible from inside the car if necessary. However, thinking about it, if I have the load-space guard/dog grill fitted it may not be that arguable(!), so I may reconsider this and keep one in the map pocket behind my driver's seat from now on... 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

I thought it was supposed to be one hi-vis jacket for evryone who's in the car, in the event that they have to get out, so I have 5 stored in the door pockets. Easy enough to grab whilst getting out.

I have a 'kit' that I always take when going over to France, which I do quite often.
Hi-viz vests, bulb kit & warning triangle all in a box, in the boot just behind the seats so that you can get to them by dropping the rear seat forward.
No gendarme is going to get me on a technicality!

Of to France myself soon, first time driving there.
Can anyone recommend a place to buy the vests etc? so I need to get one for all the family including my 2 year old?
Also what spare blubs are best to have, like numberplate ones, side lights?
And last thing how do you adjust the xenons for driving there.

Concerning the radar detectors in France :
"Les détecteurs de radars sont des appareils interdits : l'article R413-15 du code de la route prévoit 1500 euros d'amende, une suspension du permis pouvant aller jusqu'à trois ans, le retrait de deux points sur le permis, la saisie du matériel voire même du véhicule en cas de possession d'un détecteur de radar (infraction de 5ème classe)"
Strictly forbidden . You can be fined up to 1,500€, your driving licence can be kept for as long as three years and your vehicle can be seized by the authorities right away.
On the contrary.....till now ....radars warners are still legal..... for how long ????

I've been to France numerous times as my folks live there and have never been pulled to check hi-vis vests, I think perhaps bad luck.
Likewise my parents have lived in France for years and still drive a UK plate car and have never been stopped. In the boot is fine the law says you have to have them not clutter your seats and look even more like a tourist
