Grease Nipples on Lower Control Arms - Has It Been Done? |
|
Hi guys,
Can someone please tell me if I've either just come up with this idea myself or if it has in fact been done before?
The reason for asking is my Discovery has developed a lot of creaking and groaning when going over speed bumps ect. This is annoying me as in the last 12 months I've had both the passenger and drivers side upper and lower control arms changed! If I took them back off (no big deal really) could I fit grease nipples to them A, to stop them welding themselves solid over time and B, to reduce wear and noise?
Thanks in advance.

No because they are hydro bushes. Flexible rubber bushes filled with silicone oil.
I suspect your creaking will be either the drop links to the anti roll bar, or the roll bar to chassis bushes.

Grease and rubber bushes wont end well
As for the creaking think what else moves as the suspension defelcets and giev it a squirt with wd4o etc anti roll bar bushes have got to be am easy starting point.

I'd suspect the anti-roll bar components, unless the suspension was not at normal level when the wishbone bolts were tightened... Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
