Andy, when are you over in May? Need to do a recce of some routes for an East - West (or West - East) weekender. Could tag along if date is right and you don't mind a bit of company? George Whistle

Andy, Me and the Mrs spent our honeymoon in Ambleside Whistle so can't disagree with you on that one!

That weekend is a busy one for me unfortunately, enjoy all the same - as I'm sure you will!

Andy, we did the Old Coach road about 2 years ago with the D3 club, it's ok nice scenery but the last part to be careful of nasty rocky bit but good fun! Thumbs Up

For info, did the old coach road 2 weeks ago - up the way. only one slightly challenging hole on uphill after bridge, looks muddy but had a solid bottom.. Would have liked to join you, but unfortunatley will be at work in Azerbaijan. Enjoy.

I live in Ambleside most weekends and holidays. There are some good lanes around the area but there are so many walkers and mountain bikers at this time of year when the weather is half good that it makes offroading a bit miserable during the day. I usually go laning before 9.30 or after 5 when the lanes are quiet and there is no one to give you grief. Many of the lanes in the area have been shut in recent years so you do need up to date info to check your planned routes. And some lanes are very tight in a D3 or RRS.

If you are in Ambleside feel free to call in. Our pad is at www.rookerycottages.com Thumbs Up

Drove the Old Coach Road today. All very drivable went from west to east (or Thirlmere side). One tricky section near the start but with a bit of care no problem to a D3. The only other cause for concern was "the hole" about 2 thirds in. No signs of any repair work but had a solid base and driven sensibly was a breeze. Took some photos that I will up load when the gallery is sorted. Weather was not the best but still got some great views.
