Harbour hill on Father's Day

Spent a few hours at harbour hill with the Salisbury plain face book group.

Was a pleasant day. It's a small course but plenty of mud to play in. Even on a hot day.

There is a traffic light system to guide you. White being quite simple through red to black (roll cage recommended) so as long as you keep to what you're comfortable with. Be fine.

I would rate the white doable on standard road tyres on standard vehicles. Most of the red I managed (ignoring the tighter routes) and didn't look at the black once.

A few hours of fun and a chance to meet other enthusiasts. Worth a shout.

Lots of clubs rent the place so I guess keep your eyes out..

Looking good!

I'm curious about the winch bumper as there is a few types floating around now (one of the early ones reminds me of the front of a barge, but the newer offerings are slimmer). Have you had any issues from the plod or when having MOT's done? There seems to be a grey area over law, but from what I understand it's not the winch bumper that is the problem (i.e. it has a purpose and can't be banned as industry still needs them), it's the bull bar mounted on top of it that the law prohibits (hence the softer moulder rubbers ones LR use).

It has been MOT'd three times since fitting, once by me. No tugs by the police in my ownership.

Regarding the law, the winch bumper is an aftermarket addition, however it is a winch bumper and not a bull bar and most importantly has a winch fitted. So as far as the legislation goes it is a device for "forward mounted equipment" rather than "front protection", which is what is illegal.

Thanks for clarifying that. That makes a lot more sense!

As the vehicle gets older (and thus gets thrown around a bit more off road) I was contemplating fitting a winch, but wasn't sure if I wanted to go down the route of a hidden winch mount. So, if fitting a full winch bumper is a viable option I may opt for that in future. I prefer the idea of having good access to the winch.
