If you happen to go over the hump, past The Lecht, you could see if the grass needs cut. At the mo wouldn’t mind swapping this weather for Ballater’s, it’s a tad toastie.
This afternoon’s enjoyment included sitting in the shade and watching the heavily laden barges go up the Can Tho river.

The Plimsol Line is there, just getting a wash.

Then the essential part of the walk, scope out a laundry. Recycling can only be taken so far.

Sorry Del no need for me to go over the Lecht now as my log supply has dried up. Seems the owners are now trying to grow hay in the front though
Now at Sunny Ballater it was 19 deg when we arrived. Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!

Gonna be a hot one today, wall to wall blue sky and 30c at breakie time. Might be more beer & coconut icecream (which was really nice) for lunch.

Hot & sweaty day today, just wandered around this part of Can Tho, incl the local market which was hooching with stuff, and peeps on scooters buying stuff.
Plus laundry is in and being done, much to the relief of all around.
At lunch time wandered out to watch the ships go up & down the river, and ended up watching this chap fishing. He put a lot of effort in when we were there and we don’t think he caught anything.

PS thinking of doing the touristy river dinner cruise. We watched it from the Sky Bar last night as it went out a bit stopped a lot and turned back. It was packed (Fri night), and Sat night will prob be busier, so might leave it until our last night here, Monday night.
Just been perusing the menu. Mud carbs look good as not on Atkins diet.

But not too sure re the piggie choices!

Morning folks, early rise here to do the standard tourist thing, go and see the floating market just up the river at Cai Rang. When I say early I mean very early, up at 4.40 to walk to the tour boats at 5am. Bit of a shock to the system!!
The market is a load of old Mekong rice barges used for selling produce on a wholesale basis. GoogMaps shows how many there are, not as packed as we thought.

Pics are a bit rubbish as sun didn’t have its hat on very much.
Tourist boats are immediately targets for there smaller boats selling stuff. Fair few peeps buying mangos, durian, pho & (3rd next pic) cuppas.

Durian anyone?

These are old repurposed rice barges, floating wholesaler and home rolled into one.

The pole at the pointy end of the barge (some peeps call it the bow) shows what they have for sale.

Rice barge giving us the evil eye!

And for all of this boaty activity there is even a floating petrol station. Would be a bit unnerving for the tourists on that boat.

And final shot, a small boat loaded with pineapples heading to one of the markets on terra firma having restocked at the floating market.

Rest of the day had been/is going to be spent in the room as I’ve managed to come down with a dose of the runs. Thankfully it didn’t manifest itself on the boat!

And GOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING VIỆT NAM!!!! Digestive system is back to normal and crab soup avoided at breakie so was able to stride out to the mean streets of Can To in confidence.
And I needed that confidence, it was that time of the trip where luscious locks needed reined back in. Hair cut time! Put my rugged good looks in the hands of a Vietnamese chap 1/3 my age with a psychedelic tie-die tee shirt, whilst draped in the Stars and Stripes. All for shade over £2!! What could possible go wrong?
Well nothing!! Though it was a bit unusual to start a haircut with the blow dry bit but we’d hiked a fair way there and I was sweating like the proverbial.
One of best hearcuts for many a year, plus SWMBO (my usual stylist) was studying the techniques and learning much. I hope.
The post haircut coffee was as much as the haircut, but needed as it was 34c outside and we were in need of coolness (AC) and rehydration.

Weird food pic of today, Durian pizza anyone?
Plus found Bully from Bullseye’s young nephew, he’s selling beer here.
Then hike back to the river front to watch the heavily laden barges slog their way up the river. Well someone has to.

Afternoon folks, hope all not too toastie in the UK, I hear from my folks it’s swelterig there.
Today shifted from Can Tho to Phu Quoc, 40 minute flight over the Mekong Delta and Gulf of Thailand. This is the major(ish) branch of the Delta that Can Tho is on. Lots and lots of barges, mostly moving sand and gravel.
Plus more agriculture than you can shake a stick at.
Eventually (well 30 minutes later) flew over the hotel strip, well the building strip. Our hotel is the one surrounded by building work just up from the bottom of the view. Most of the site shows around us are inactive so nice and quiet.
Someone from the Haiphong flight is going to be shopping for new clothes!
And to the InterCont for a bit of luxury and relaxation. We’d spotted that the website offered a free transfer to the hotel, even though that freebie was pulled from 1/2/19, so we pointed that out and got a free transfer in a very nice Q7 with cold towels and chilled drinks. Most appreciated as it was 35c.
Very nice room looking over the ocean and pool.
Back to afternoon teas, along with iced lattes, though SWMBO discovered iced “hot” chocolate was not to her taste so someone had to drink it.
And back to cocktail two hours. Vietnamese coffee martinis are very nice.
Not planning to do much here, rest and relaxation are the order of the days we are here. Well it’s hard work travelling here.
