Guernsey holiday - where to stay

We’re taking a holiday on Guernsey next year. Never been, so don’t really know where to stay.
Family of three, son is a WW2 history buff so can I have some recommendations for the area to stay and things to do please?

Madrilleno.

A lovely island, I prefer it over Jersey actually. It’s like “the land that time forgot” as the pace of life seems slower and real old fashioned values still remain. We seriously looked at moving over there when we were younger as my wife is a teacher and they are very sought after on the island and would allow you to rent a house with a view to purchase after year 3. They have very strict rules about buying there to stop the financial industry taking over and pushing residents out.

All the WW2 occupation of the German forces and what they built is fascinating.
Lots of great places and things to see…… but one of the finest meals I have ever eaten was at Saltwater restaurant on the pier St. Peter Port. Truly some of the best seafood (if you enjoy seafood of course!) in the world.

Enjoy your stay!

Thumbs Up
A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Cobo bay is / was a very nice popular bay to stay around, don’t forget you can drive from one end of the island to the other in about half an hour so it doesn’t really matter where you stay, St Peter port being the busiest part and with the most attractions ie bars and restaurants.
There are other places with good eateries and the WW2 history is well catered for.

Kind regards

Was there in September, but all places had staff shortages, and restaurants had to be booked in advance if you wanted a particular time.

We stayed at The Duke of Normandie in St. Peter Port, one of very few that had parking, although not enough for the amount of rooms.

As for museums, the best by a long chalk was a private one, The German Occupation Museum, near the airport, and also Castle Cornet in the port is a must, far more to see than expected.

Cobo Bay on the other side of the island from St. Peter Port is well worth the visit, and not far from there is Fort Grey Shipwreck Museum, opposite Guernsey Pearl, which is a good place to eat.

In general our lunches were brilliant throughout the island, fresh crab & lobster every day!
