Every chalet needs a sherpa I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Snow cover up on the slopes didn't look very much, ND. Where were you and what was the snow like? Do you reckon it will last until Easter?

Out next week, plenty of snow still apperently (Grand Massif)
I can tell when it is time to head for the Alps as the car always needs a trip to the dealer three days before(belt pulleys are on the way out - they won't fail sir, probably ) and I am pretty convinced the rear suspension is not entirely connected to the car at the moment end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
that pic with the grass showing through was on a south-west facing ridge that gets severely windswept, exposing a couple of narrow shale ridges that peak up through the snow no matter what. 3ft from that strip the snow was over 4ft deep and typical coverage was 6-7ft on the slopes. Oh, and it's a little way off piste at 2100m at a point where the parapentes used to take off until the local mayor got a hard-on and banned it.
The valley in the background is south facing and at 1000m, hence the large uncovered patchesI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Sorry NJF, just remembered you know Les Contamines. That pic is on the upper section of Monument, overlooking the Hauteleuce valley. Had blatted down along the SW edge of the piste then nipped off piste over towards the bit you see to grab a spot of lunch, take in the views and throw snow at my daughter (a mutual arrangement) I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Looks good, ND. We're not due to go down until the week before Easter, so we think it's going to be a gamble with the snow. A friend was in the Alps last week and he said they had heavy snow every day.
But the weather in Luxembourg feels like summer is coming - warm days, early light, beautiful sunshine. I was in the woods with the family last weekend and several large skeins of geese flew over, honking their way north. Stunning. This is a beautiful place to live.
