Halfords Oil
Anyone got an opinion / experience in using Halfords oil?
been in this weekend and they've got 20% off it. for five litres it's only £19.99 (normally £24.95)
Looking at the spec it meets all the usual requirements of Castrol and given the saving it's something I'm considering for the upcoming service.
So question is, does this meet with land rover approval or could i be setting myself up for problems?
Help!!

It will be fine. Its probably Castrol in a Halfords branded bottle anyway. I have used Halfords oil in the past with no ill effect.

It's the correct spec. for the D3 and as Gareth said it's probably one of the major brands in a Halfords bottle.
I bought a 5L bottle a while back for £19.99 to use for top ups if necessary in between services. At the till they gave me an 8 piece professional screwdriver set priced at £18.00 so I was well pleased!Clubs Mantec, Tasmods, LEDS, AT2s on 18s, Maxxis Bighorns on 17s, Remote FBH, BAS. My Z3 and my Kawasaki bike run on their fully synthetic stuff (proper ratings etc) no problem - and I have loads of screwdrivers "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Nick, is that your way of saying that Yeovil LR use spry crisp and dry in the workshop rather than the recommended Castrol I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Great Idea Womble,
I was charged £47 quid at the last service for Castrol (5W-30), they didn't say what quantity they put in though - do you (or anyone else) know what volume of oil is required at the 3year service??

I use the Halfords synthetic stuff in my VX220
If I remember correctly it was an old formula of Mobil 1
and a bit more digging shows Halfords oil is made by:-
Comma which is owned by Esso (ExxonMobil), blended at Fawley Hampshire.
