Halogen lights alignment

I know this is going to sound a bit odd ...but!
My (car's) adaptive xenons are (or appear to be) completely self adjusting and appear to be well alligned. The halogen main beam infill lights are however pointing into the sky! Is there any way of adjusting this part of the lights or do I just have to live with the risk of confusing landing aircraft? Shocked

I had'nt noticed but a friend of mine who was sitting in the passernger front pointed out that the halogens were illuminating the trees. Of course I notice this more now Rolling Eyes

Is there any means of adjustment??

especially as his RRS seems to have a nice focussed canopy of light ..... and I want one too.

Great - thank you - Just before I go and mess it up completely Shocked
Can you confirm, if I adjust the lights using these instructions, will the xenons re-level themselves to where they are now? Or will I end up with the halogen ones pointing ahead and the xenon ones looking for moles? (sorry Boatienz - I liked the owls bit Very Happy )

Ok ..the adjustment procedure above is for all 3 types of lights ...the xenon part will automatically relevel as it takes signals from the hight sensors etc ..

So its seems the adjusters are just for the main beam , the adaptive xenon part will not be affected or adjusted by those 2 adjusters .

Thumbs Up

The xenon lights themselves don't self-level, chaps, the vehicle does......hence the need to fit manual levelling on coil springers. If you start messing around with the vertical alignment screw, you are also going to affect the alignment of the xenon unit.

The adaptive lighting unit deals with horizontal alignment, but not vertical.

I wonder if this is simply an optical effect created by the high beam reflector. If the xenons are pointing in the right direction, then (as there is no independent adjustment), so should the halogen high beams. Try to find a wall with a horizontal line, and see how the beam pattern lies before you start fiddling.

The diagnosis could, of course, be that the headlamps are aligned perfectly, but the vehicle ride height isn't.

Wiggs thanks for the info - interesting reading Smile

From my subjective test - driving up track to house with the main lights off and just the headlight flash on - the only thing that seemed well lit were the tops of the hedges Sad
However, I'll check it out properly against a wall before I decide to mess about as the last thing I want to do is Censored up the xenons Shocked If it is out I'll try and take some pics to show what I mean.
Thanks
Richard

If the lights are turned to off, and you flash the headlamps, only the halogen lamps will light. Alone, they throw a very different beam pattern.

Thriftwood states Adaptive front xenons ...in which case the lights self level , not the car Whistle

"Dynamic headlamp levelling is only available on vehicles with the AFS system and air suspension.
The dynamic headlamp levelling adjusts the vertical alignment of the headlamps as a rapid response to changes in vehicle attitude due to acceleration or braking."

If you go back to the beginning, and also read his post just above, you will see that his problem is with the halogen high-beam infill lamps, and not the xenons.

The halogen lamps are not part of the AFS system; this only applies to the xenon lamps.

Also, the overall levelling on the adaptive system is linked to vehicle levelling. The dynamic element you highlight is only in response to rapid vertical attitudinal changes.
