Ham Radio install in D4 Loadspace |
|
Hi All
My new D4 which was due in March , then January has suddenly appeared at my dealer for delivery tomorrow ! ( how do Lode Lane do it !!! )
I want to install my Icom Ic7100 main unit in the load space somewhere and need to pick up a 20 A supply . Is there one ? I was thinking tow bar electrics maybe ??
Any suggestions regarding the supply or indeed somewhere to put the main unit or head unit would be appreciated .
Have a great Christmas
Simon

Hi Simon
I installed my Yaesu head unit by fabricating a little bracket that slides under the D4's dash 'soft top' and I have to admit is very sturdy and neat - more so than I thought it would be!
Link to my previous post on this
Because I have drawers in the boot, it was simplest for me to mount the main unit onto those, rather than trying to find a secure, ventilated space for it to sit, although, having since had the boot side panels out, it would be pretty easy to mount the main rig's bracket behind there.
As for power, I wanted my rigs to run off my 2nd battery so I have a separate feed running to the boot area anyway .. so tapped into that (via small fuse board). Obviously the towing electrics run through the boot area, so someone more knowledgeable than me with regards to wiring colours to loo out for will be along shortly I'm sure
Please feel free to ask any specifics about the installation I have linked to.
Best

Hi James
Thanks for the information.
I like the head unit bracket you made up, very neat , nice job . With that inspiration I will probably make up something similar .
Now if I can just find a nice big feed in the boot ....

The towing electrics on a D3 have 15 amp fuses , not sure of D4. I ran extra HD wires from second battery to the rear for my radio. Thought it better to isolate high current drain and possible RFI from main loom.

Not standard, I fitted deep discharge Battery in front of the Brake Servo with a split charge facility. I believe there are a number of posts describing the sort installation.
