Tension on the EPB has gone...unfortunately a much too common issue...
You can adjust it yourself (run a search and there are some threads that give the steps).
But if it has screamed a few times then the shoes could be stuffed. IIRC it is possible to replace yourself (if your are mechanically minded) otherwise its off to the dealer or independant... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

mine did the scream thing recently ran through the brake adjust and set up posted by bodsey I think it is a sticky thread in maintenance section took about 1 to 1 ½ hrs with tea breaks and sorting my neighbours heating stopped the scream but as said brake shoes may be poor but it seems to be good enough until funds allow disc and pad replacement

In the mean time, when you stop the car, leave it parked in gear. When you remove the key from the ignition keep the handbrake button pressed down and it wont apply the handbrake so no squeal.
Pretty easy job to sort but dont leave it for long before you do it - if the epb module goes you'll be looking at a hefty bill. The shoes may just need adjusting so best tackle it yourself or drop it to whomever services your car. Sometimes if you've driven through mucky water that can set it off. Get it looked at anyway, pretty common issue as JF said A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

Hi Silver Fox,
Be aware that the EPB operates on drum brakes inside the rear disc brakes. Just because you ave had the disc pads replaced doesn't mean that the EPB shoes don't need replacing.
Anyhow, try adjusting them first.
Best Wishes,

As my car is due an MOT at the end of the month I booked it into the main dealers for its 4 th year service (£299inc + £54 MOT). I have extended warranty cover with Warranty Direct and expect the EPB will be covered. That said I am 800 miles over my stated annual mileage so wondered whether I should expect a fight with them or whether they will just cover it. I had a holiday to France last summer so put an extra 2k on the expected mileage. Has anyone had any dealings with them??
