Fantastic video HD, I've now added that road to my "to do" list next time I'm up the lakes, not one for the faint hearted in winter conditions.

Every time I've done it there has been at least one car being recovered with a burnt out clutch  . First time I did it in a SD1 3500V8 the radio came out of the dash on a steep bit, did it in a Mercedes ML and every time I went uphill on a steep bit the oil light came on even though the oil level was checked and correct when on the level
Did it many times in the early 1970s in a Mni, then in an MGB - often in rain / mist/ at night.

Yes it was HDC, feet well away from the pedals and a gentle steering that's all
Ian, yes you are right, if you look closely someone had attempted to come up, got quite a long way up, until that point when the car must have veered off and gone over the edge.
We stopped but nothing was down there so they must have been towed out?
The worry I had was not being able to see the edge of the tarmac, dropping a wheel off would have meant Elaine getting out to push  A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.

Most policies will have a "General Condition" stating you must take care, protect (or similar wording) your car.
To drive on a closed road due to snow and ice could very well be a breach of that condition and result in insurers declining to meet a claim for damage to your vehicle.
More importantly, if passengers/other parties were injured/damaged and they were caused by you, then under the terms of the RTA your insurer would be obliged to meet their claims.
However under compulsory insurance law, if they made such a payment your insurer could seek reimbursement from you in view of the breech of the "General Condition"
This same "General Condition" can extend to the failing to give true information when obtaining/renewing insurance which could include such as not disclosing convictions, accidents, modifications etc.
