HDC Fault / Christamss Tree on dashboard |
|
Hi All,
The other half phone me on her way home yesterday to say she we losing electrical power on our D3 (2006 / Manual / SE), she was only 2 miles from home so managed to get in home and back on the drive.
Having had a look last night it was showing a HDC fault on the dash but did start sluggishly with dimmed lights, so having had a google i am wondering if it could be the battery on the way out or alternator? It was the first cold day of the year and the battery is circa 5 years old. I put it on my Ctek as it only does short runs and once its had a good charge will get my stepson to use his volt meter to check the alternator. Assume this just needs to go battery connection to see if the alternator is charging, if it is will most likely start my changing the battery to dee if the rectifies it , any recommendations for battery ? If it the alternator will have a go at changing myself as having goggled it look not to complicated.
Cheers
Matt
Should have said she told me the battery light came on the dashboard not long after she left home.

The battery light usually indicates an alternator problem. If changing the alternator make sure you replace it with a Denso unit as others may or not be satisfactory. With a 5 year old battery it would be a good time to replace it as a dying alternator will quickly kill the battery.

Battery has been on charge a couple of day red battery light is still on. Checked voltage and was a consistent 12 v even after running for a while so I guess this all points to the altinator ?
