HDC switched off special programs disabled |
|
car goes through phases of going into limp mode with HDC fault and "special programs disabled" (Christmas tree dashboard!)- switch off and back on and all ok
she can go for hours on motorway and all ok. Typically seems to happen when in 4th or 6th gear and when going round a gentle corner and slightly uphill.
i have a feeling it is related to the vehicle being hot (not ambient temperature) as this has never happened within even 30 minutes of starting her from cold. Example yesterday it happened 5 times having driven over 600km at 60-70 mph continuously. I waited in a queue for 1 hour with engine on and it was fine for the next 30-45 minutes taken to complete the journey
i have changed battery, new brake light switch and been to specialist with a computer and all he could see were inconclusive and unspecified "injector problems "
i am in Montenegro and now without access to diagnostic computer
any and all help / even whacky ideas (!) would be brilliant

Had a similar problem last year went into limp mode at intermittent times, cut a long story short check your MAP sensor is not blocked up with carbon, mine was and replacing it fixed the problem. My Faultmate recorded faults with low fuel rail and injector pressure I interpreted that as wrong signals to the EMS and the MAP sensor was the culprit.
Hope this helps

I had a similar issue, same causes with gentle curves whilst driving at 60-70mph causing HDC unavailable, followed by special programs off and then the suspension lowered warning coming up. Pulling over and restarting it always worked. In my case a re-calibration of the steering angle sensor did the trick, mine showed 16 degrees with the wheels dead ahead so I suspect that a gentle corner was sufficient to upset the computer. There was also one corner (and only one) where the curve was just right to set the traction control off.

Hi geoff b,
If it is the MAP sensor you will have a clear indication when you inspect it, mine was clogged full of carbon and there was very little clearway for the diaphragm to sense any change in engine conditions to let the EMS know. Be careful, very careful cleaning the MAP sensor, I destroyed mine by using a cotton bud and contact cleaner and allowing the cotton bud to come in contact with the diaphragm.
....I learn something every day!
If it looks like it is clogged up I suggest get a new one if you can, just remove the screw, pull the plug and replace.
As an aside, we were returning from a 14k trip to the other side of Oz anr we had that problem 42 times in the last 400ks!
Hope you get sorted
cheers

Interesting. I have had this similar issue last week twice within 50 miles and once today after about 3 hours of 65-70mph motorway cruising.
Apart from usual egr codes (patch needed) I got P2290 Injector control pressure too low.
Going to try a new fuel filter as its due a change, but i too was thinking it was temperature related and rested for an hour, the last leg of 180 miles it was fine....
will have a look at the map sensor again too 08 D3 TDV6 SE
