Although Ii have had some issues with DLS in the past, they did my last service (@ 105,000) with no issues (Big Service, belts and all)

That cost me £850, they have decent courtesy cars, new fiestas/ corsa's.

the availability was within 2 weeks so I was happy with that. Hunters at Derby were at least 8 weeks wait and £1650 +VAT for the big service.

I'm near Ashbourne so not a million miles away I would guess.

Funny I have thought of the Velar as they appear to be deals available. When I sat in one at the dealers it was a great cabin but noticed how car like it was and the lower driving position.

To me its not a Landrover so might have to get a project car to get the my LR fix!

Talking of expensive services … broke it to SWMBO that the 7 year service is due next month and costs a serious amount of money. She's gone off to work muttering "sell it" or something similar. I tried not to listen too closely.

So spending thousands on a replacement is a better bet than a grand or so on the service.

Still struggling to understand why you even told her.

I was quoted £1429 inc vat for the big service. and £773 for the 96k. However I was offered a service plan covering both for £1515 so on face of it a good saving but Im waiting for clarification as to whats included in the 112k

Back on the original question, normally I change at around 100k, 4 years. Agree with OP re current choices so I decided to keep mine (70k 2015) till 150k. Just done a gearbox flush. Taken out a LR warranty, might be a mistake not to have WD, but they didn't make me a very good price due to the mileage I do.

These long waiting times are partly due to the massive increase in sales.

The dealers were set up for 100k car sales a year and just a few short years later JLR are selling 600k! There is just not the capacity at the minute.

Is it increase in sales or poor planning by the dealers.
Booked a second service at the end of January for April 4th, so giving plenty of notice, along with booking the service I advised them that the Hand Brake was binding a bit and squeaks as you travel for a mile or so after being used, (I had unadjusted it to stop the worst)
Also the drivers seat belt not retracting (common fault)

They did the service but advised they needed it back to do the seat belt and fix a weep on the gearbox they found, first available date was today, six weeks from the service, they need it for three days Shocked
Also asked did they do the handbrake, yes, they adjusted it, well that just made it worse.

Took it in today, why do you need it for three days?
We need to look at it today, ascertain what parts are needed, order parts, parts come in Thursday, so should hopefully fit the parts Friday.

Why not look at what they need when in for the service, the seat belt, they know what the fault is, why not order the parts when booking it in for the service?

I was wondering if it was the increase in warranty work as they fettle the new models, software and engines. But suspect its a combination of increased sales, the merging Jag and land rover dealers workshops, shortage of skilled staff who understand the software and can problem solve and poor planning when problems arise Sad

All leave customers frustrated at wasting time either with multiple visits to dealers and the lack of available appointments for servicing and warranty work.

Just back from LRE Dunkeld, we had a go in a RRS, for me the best looking of the current range and it is a very impressive bit of machinery. So having tried FFRR and a RRS, I now think if I stay with LR after the D4 it will be a RRS. Thumbs Up

It's definitely down to use case but I'd stick with the D4 until a better option comes out.

That's certainly the easiest option and one I may well take. Just buy a warranty and carry on.

After a week of flip flopping between keep the D4 or change. Decision made!

Having looked at current LR options and being underwhelmed and looking at other vehicles it became obvious that there was currently no alternative to the D4 only compromises Crying or Very sad

This morning I was a phone call away from trading the D4 but I have decided to hang on for the new defender or Jim Ratcliffes Projekt Grenadier. The compromises are too great and the risk of loosing a shed load of cash swapping to a stop gap solution led to a head and heart reconciliation Very Happy

Sounds like a good solution to me Thumbs Up

While I’ve lost interest in waiting for the Defender (I’m 53, so I’m more likely to be in the market for a mobility scooter than a car when/if it finally launches), but I’m interested to see what Ratcliffe comes up with Very Happy

I'm closer to than that to the motability scooter! But I agree it will be interesting to see what Ratcliffe's Projekt Grenadier is like.

Heard many versions of what and when to expect the defender but can't see anything will be in the showrooms to buy this year.
