Headlights/Sidelights Have Taken Over !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
|
Whilst driving today in daylight noticed that my headlights and sidelights were on (reflection in back of van in front of me) - went to switch them off and discover they were switched off anyway........... .
Drove on till safe to pull over, parked hopped out & checked only to discover headlights, sidelights off ........ ,believing I was seeing things drove on.
Down the road hey presto headlights, sidelights reflection again on the coach in front ....... .
Checked dash switch off and yes it was - stopped once more and this time checked front and rear lights ,all on but not according to the dash switch .......
The lights had taken over and did not need me to activate them anymore .................
Next set of traffic lights - light reflections in vehicle in front BUT then applied park brake and light reflections gone
Released park brake and presto on they come again.
WTF is going on............switched off ignition and restarted and same again all lights on but apply park brake and voila they disappear. Dash illumination not on though when this happens . Thats the way its been now for two days....
Normal switching on via dash switch all working ok thank god as would not want lights out in the dark when stopped at lights or junctions with park brake applied - only happens when dash light switch in off position.
Now I do not have auto lights feature fitted as its a base 7 D3 spec'n or do I ?
Whats causing this - interesting feature mind you....
Boffins please step up with your thoughts

What about if you put it into Neutral but leave the EPB off?
Have you had any other issues recently?
Can't think why it'd do it unless you've been changing CCF settings
Or is it a symptom of a knackered battery The End

Similar symptoms for a knackered headlight switch. I should know, I've been through 3 of them

If that's all it is I've got one here you can have for a few quid, assuming it's just the basic type manual with rear fogs only switch you need The End

OK...here's another....
For 1.5 years now my front and rear sidelights are permanently on when the key is in position II - it doesn't matter if the engine is running or not, or if the EPB is on/off - they are always on irrespective of switch panel position.
I've changed the switch panel for a new one and confirmed that no DRL settings are enabled in the CCF, but they still stay on
To be honest I've gotten used to it and quite like it now, but I'd love to find out the cause. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

On my 57 D3 I have the lights set to auto all the time. When I go to work it is light and clear. Turn ign on let it go through it's self check then start the car. Front lights come on during the cranking of the engine but go off as soon as the engine is running. Doesn't do it everytime though. It's going in for the Fuel pump next month so will mention it then HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

Mine do the same Mark, but they only come on at startup if they were on when I switched off, seems like they return to the last state before the sensor kicks in and switches them off The End

I had something similar a couple of years back on my MY06. Driving along in traffic and noticed that when I braked the side lights came on or off (can't remember which). However this was accompanied by the fact that the auto box wouldn't change up a gear easily, revved a lot higher than normal. IIRC this was followed shortly by a Transmission Fault message. Car back to stealers and it turned out to be a shorted brake light bulb. Once this was changed all ok and no problems since.
Might not be the same issues but for the 5 minutes it takes to pull these bulbs probably worth a test.
