My Heated Screen toasted ?

I've had suspicions for a while it wasnt working. Well this morning was -5 car totally white.

Turned the car on, turned OFF the heater (no air blowing) and then turned on both front and back heated sceens. The back started to clear immediatly, the front however - nothing.

I left it for 10 mins and not a sign of defrosting, the light on the dash is on.

Is it likely to be the screen thats Censored or the electrickery ?

IMO it's say electrik - the screen is actually in two parts, left & right with separate fuses for each if I remember rightly. They're 30Amp and in the engine bay fuse box Wink Worrying thing though is that you say the blower isn't blowing either, that seems to imply a little bit more's involved Confused
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

The blower does work I just turned it off as I wanted to see if the screen heater would clear the ice rather than warm air from the engine.

Gonna do a fuse hunt in the morning!

my front screen clears within 2 mins so would suggest checking the connections to the screen 1st, if push comes to shove then your insurance will give you a new screen for the cost of your excess.
 If in doubt............flat out.

Front screen is quicker than the rear. If both sides, it's unlikely to be the fuse - most likely the connection to the screen.

Has it worked in the past, or never worked?

The power save strategy will shut off heated screens / seats / mirrors etc. if the battery voltage is low, even if the LED is illuminated, it may not be operating. try running the engine at ~2000 rpm for a minute or two first, before that though, check the relay is fitted and that you can feel it clicking when the switch is operated

I've never seen it work really as I allways use the 'power clear' (top button) and leave it running. It's only after talking to a friend who has a Jag with a heated screen (Ford own the patent for it apparently)who said his cleared fast that I started investigating.

Should I give LRA a call to check it or just book it into the dealer ?

Maybe the rear screen was switched on first, that would cause a slight volt-drop at tickover, initiating the power save strategy?

Doubt LRA would attend for a heated front screen issue...

The novice guide to checking:

lift the bonnet and on the top right hand side is the battery cover (see owners manual if you want), the battery junction fuse box is on the right hand side next to the battery (you'll have to take the battery cover off to see then oblong box which simply lifts off after unclipping at one end), can buy a packet of them from Halfords for less than £2.50 and then remove the 1"x1" relay which is listed on the inside lid of the fuse box cover, simply pull the relay out and then put it back in, make sure the ignition keys are out.

Will take yer less then 10 mins to check and I bet yer its a fuse like everything else seems to be in this weather Rolling with laughter

thanks character, off to check now.

The manual does instruct against removing the relays though (page 304).
