Heated Seats but are they really?? |
|
Ok guys.
There are some forum posts centred around faulty heated seats but none that specifically say this.
I have an SE with front/rear buttons for heated seats. And they light up and for all intents and purposes appear to work. However, none of the seats actually heat up so my question is do I actually have heated seats and if so what fault could be causing them to all not work or did LR in their wisdom add all the buttons but not the actual elements to the SE model.
Pulling my hair out trying to figure this one out so any help or advice would be brilliant. Thanks. Cogito ergo sum!

I have a 2006 SE
Got the buttons, got the hot seats.
Sounds like a fuse, but as they light up, not really sure.

Ok that helpful to know, thanks. Defo heated seats there then.
Chances of all 4 running off same fuse which has blown or chances of all four elements failing is slim though isn't it???

Probably the most important thing you are missing is a warm posterior on a cold morning
Have you checked all of the cables underneath the seats are all connected
Think theres a fuse for front ( F 7 ) and rear ( F 8 ) for the heater control modules under the bonnet, but it seems most issues are either connectors or the pads are knackered (each seat is wired in series so if the base pad is gone the back will also not heat.
Just got myself a new heater pad for mine as its not worked since ive had it so need to do some surgery with it!
Good luck Must stop buying shiny toys....

I think there is a 25A white fuse under the bonnet for the fronts
and another 25A under the bonnet for the rears
from memory.
They get F-ing hot when working. So I guess yours aren't.
I only use the low setting for a couple of minutes
Fronts do fail.
The rear control electrics box is easily visable when you lift the rear seat base up, so recommend you try some diagnostics there.

I'll start with fuses then move to connectors and then pads.
Would fuses allow lights to work on the button but seats not to actually heat?
Which connectors should I be checking?
And is there a way to test the pads? Cogito ergo sum!

Is there a relay for them?, if the switches are lighting it would suggest that that part of the circuit is good which would lead me to suspect a faulty relay
As Pete said you'll know when they're working as they get very (too) hot Mark

Do the seat heaters heat without anyone sitting in the seat, or do they require the weight of a person to switch them on ? Just wondering in case it had anything to do with the weight sensors, if fitted ?

Don't think that matters but I have tried both. I've checked all fuses now too. All seem to be good. Cogito ergo sum!

Having looked at heated seats wiring diagrams in the gallery I’m becoming increasingly convinced that the problem is likely a faulty relay.
None of my seats work but all lights working as expected so chances of all fuses, or all elements or all connectors being at fault must be slim.
Surely I need to be looking for a single point of failure???
Anybody else care to offer an opinion on the above please. Also, I believe the relay I need to check is R211 in battery compartment. Are all the relays in there the same, just for testing purposes could I swap it with one of the others???
Thanks all. Cogito ergo sum!

They should heat up without anyone in the seat, I often switch mine on before passengers get in, I would check the relays, they may have been used elsewhere . It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I have an SE.
But only the front seats are heated on my year for some unknown reason.
But they work fine.

Not all relays are the same but there's likely to be at least one that is. Assuming it's a non critical system you could borrow it for testing purposes Mark
