Heated Washers . . . Again !!
Hi all - it's winter time so this is obviously rearing its head again. I've read the previous posts on the heated windscreen washers (incl D4s are better than the D3 ones !) and have just picked my D4 commercial from the garage today after a service.
I had asked them to check if they were working properly because they were frozen solid, and took a good 45 mins to defrost, and even when they had initially started 'leaking' some fluid from the jets, it refroze again.
I was told that they are working fine, but "note the heated rear screen needs to be switched on for them to operate"
Looking at the previous posts on this, it appears that they should either be automatic, or alternatively the front screen needs to be on.
Can anyone share experiences of how hot their nozzles get - and how to turn them on ??!!

Certainly from watching the driver's side one defrost today on my D3 it doesn't require either screen heaters to be on, mine weren't. Passanger side did nothing though.

Heated nozzles are turned on automatically when it is cold.

I agree that it should be automatic - and yet this is the information from the main dealer yesterday.
On the serious side though, how long does it usually take for the frozen jets to start working ?

Mine was on defrost this morning jets still frozen solid after 10 minuets Discovery 3 se gone

HRS comes on automatically below a certain temperature (5deg?). Maybe that's what they are on about.

Irrespective of whether the nozzles are heated or not, in my experience the most important thing is to make sure the screen fluid is made up of the correct proportion of screen wash fluid and water; sometimes even 100% screen wash fluid in very low temperatures. There is no point in having heated nozzles if the fluid has frozen further upstream. So many folk (not LR owners I'm sure) keep topping up their screenwash bottle with water so it becomes so dilute it will freeze vey quickly. We have all seen drivers driving into a low sun with filthy, smeared windscreens due to their washers frozen and they can hardly see where they are going. They might as well be driving with their eyes closed.

Is you D4 MY16 if so it might be related to ambient temp sensor issues
