United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 4.4 V8 HSE Auto Santorini BlackDiscovery 3
Hello

Another newbie ...

Greetings from an Audi owner, but life long LR fanatic Smile

'58 Series II
'71 Series IIa V6
'81 RR V8
'71 RR Bobtail
'01 Freelie 1.8

8)

Before I jumped ship, my last LR was a Freelie which I loved, but dealer apathy / terrible aftersales care and the impending D3 stopped me buying a Disco 2.

Anyhow, my hobby is Rallying and although we didn't compete last year, once a month I did safety radio duties in the cabrio - half of which were down forest tracks Shocked

My wife has had a succession of Audis (7 or 8 ) and not once have any of them been into a dealer for *anything*. Neither have either of my 2 ...

Therefore I have a couple of options: I can stick with my nice Cabrio - which I love - and get an old Disco / Rangie for my hobby and all the hassle and extra cost that entails, or I can blow my whole budget and step into a D3.

So, what are servicing costs like for the Disco - I only do 5k a year. That hammered me on the Freelie, but Audis are variable / 2 years and I change mine every year as the residuals are sooooo good.

With all the seats folded down, is the floor area flat, how big is it and would it fit a double airbed do you think? (03.30 starts for a drive to mid wales are a bit tiring from Milton Keynes!)

Any reports on residuals? I fancy the TDV6 S Bonatti / Black with tow pack, and roof rails.

Is there a way to get leather on the S?

Fianally (you'll be pleased to know if you've read this far) any idea which diesel engine will be in the RR Sport? One article I read said twin turbos which aroused my curiosity!

Big Dan - having also had Audi's, I think you may find LR customer care an eye-opener!!

This may be a surprise but... my Audi dealer (Listers in Worcs) were very very good 9 out of 10 !

My LR dealer (Shukers in Ludlow) are actually very very good too. The only beef I do have is that they are a little in the dark on the D3 and its S/W problems etc. But I blame LR for this as they really should have access to all the info.

I'd recommend them no problem.

Dan

If you read all the posts on this site, you probably go away thinking that the LR D3 is biggest pile of poo that ever emerged from the bog at Solihul!!

However, despite the niggles that a few of us are having, I think we would all agree that the D3 is a fantastic concept, that works extremely well on and off the road.

I think LR have got a LOT to learn when it comes to customer service, and I mean a LOT! If their vehicles were not so good, they would have gone to the wall long ago.

You will find that the D3 faults mostly seem to be electronic software issues. I think mechanically it seems excellent so far. Software issues are annoying, because they usually render a perfectly servicable vehicle unusable until someone at the dealer hits the reset button! The dealers also cannot do much to fix the problem, they can only cure the symptom by resetting. They are reliant on LR providing them with updates.

I would guess that LR are biding their time for a while, to allow the model to get a few miles under its belt with the customers, and will issue an update to the software systems in a couple of months time. They may even wait until the 06 model is due, and the 05 models are coming up for 1st service, this will alleviate pressure on the dealers.

I love my D3, it is everything I wanted in a car, and although it cost me an awful lot of money, and it has a couple of faults to be sorted, I would not change a thing.

Gareth,

Well put sir !

I agree... my D3 (and only an 'S') is the best car I have ever spent my own cash on.

We all believe in this car so much we want it to be the perfect car. Other manufacturers can only dream of the commitment their customers have for their products as we do for Land Rover's.

The main issue here is as you say... LR customer service and in turn their commitment to the dealer channel. They should contact us all directly, gather our thoughts, comments etc and react to us with the same passion as we do for their vehicles.

Apologies for dragging back my old post ...

Suffice it to say, the cabrio went and I've spent the last year in a '99 TD5 GS 7 Auto. After a house move, I'm rethinking the Disco 3.

1. What are servicing costs like for the Disco - I only do 6k a year.

2. With all the seats folded down, is the floor area flat, how big is it and would it fit a double airbed do you think?

3. Any reports on residuals?

Seems to be anywhere from £200 to £500

Row 2 & 3 fold completely down and flat - I'd say a double airbed would fit fine

Dunno - one year old ones seem to be doing fine! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
