Help identifying what's been removed?

Hi all,

My D4 was recently stolen and recovered by the police from outside a chop shop seemingly before they started stripping it, however there is a bit of a puzzle and I hope someone here can help.

The interior of the motor looks complete, trim, door cards etc. all still attached, but in the passenger foot well were four screws and a wing nut. We've looked and looked but can't see where they might have come from.

My only thought (and it might be a red herring) is that something has been removed from under passenger seat and stripped. I say this because the front stud on the tray has marks as if something was there once, and may be the source of the wing nut.

I've attached a picture of a screw (there were four found in total along with a wing nut), and the tray under the passenger seat.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

Could the screws be number plates?

The module which is present is the audio module, I think.

Did you have satellite navigation? Does it work? I think the MY2010 has the satnav under what is the passenger seat in the U.K...?

Does look like a number plate screw.

Thanks for your suggestions.

The screws aren't from the number plates. I wondered that too, but the plates were stuck on. I say were as it doesn't have any at present. I suppose it's possible they came from/with the false plates that the thieves added assuming they were stripped from another car.

Then there's the wing nut. I don't recall seeing any on the motor before.

On the under seat modules, I did try the GPS briefly and it appeared to show the current location, similarly the radio worked, although I didn't check whether or was DAB or 'just' FM.

Never seen the type of screw with a coating you show and I’ve never seen a LR wing nut. If I was going to remove anything under the seats, I’d have taken the seats out tbh as it makes life a lot easier.

The module is the USB module.

looking at that screw, seems to be slightly corroded ? which suggests it was not from the interior.

Ok, looking at this from a different direction, what doesn’t work? Any odd fault codes?

Thanks all for your contributions. Really appreciated and it's helped put my mind at rest at what is quite a troubling time.

The conclusion is that the four screws are from the stolen false plates that the thieves put on my motor. It doesn't appear any electronics have been stripped and who knows where the wing nut came from.

Guess I'll know more when I get proper access and diagnostics are run, but so far I've only been to briefly assess the motor and seem to have got away lightly with mostly superficial damage, quite a bit of scratching (like they drove one side into a hedge), some broken lights and some stripped trims in the rear. Nothing the coach works can't easily sort.

I will need to review security when I eventually get it back. I have CCTV of the theft and it's 30 seconds from the thief coming into view to driving away. No alarms or forced entry. Quite chilling.

The police team who found it recovered seven Land rovers that week, including fairly new Evoques and RR sports. Given that's just one local team and the high position of all JLR products on the theft top ten, I think we all need to be extremely vigilant.

Thanks again.

How did they nick it? If key piggy back relay you could just switch the keyless entry off with the 3 x lights & unlock (or is it lock Confused ) then just press the button old school style. Thumbs Up

Incl moi, the hack wouldn’t work on my D4. I didn’t worry about the D3, no-one was going to steal it which left the pleasure of stripping her to me. Thumbs Up

No keyless here, just the 'old school' button remote!

I'm thinking they used a remote scanner. The thief just walked up and got in like he had keys. Then a bit of a pause (presumably as he programs a new key) and with a flash of the hazards it started and was gone.
