The point is that this is one of the rules of the forum, so if we did post how to do it on here the mods would be on us like a shot! Whether or not you think the rule is pointless is a different matter (and one you would need to take up with the moderators/owners of the forum).

Fair enough ! Rules is rules ! Thumbs Up

Hi,
you will need a new lock then, get one from landrover complete lock and keys along with info on how to change it, all for about £18

As we know, my towbar has no lock at all, nothing but a hole through the middle, so I assume its held on only by rust.

Any tips for getting it off? Sledgehammer?

I know that and the stealer quoted me £28 +vat.
But as I plan to throw it in the bin and will be fitting at towtrust one when funds allow, I would be grateful if someone could kindly pm me the details.

Hi,
have you looked "in" the hole Question

if its a polo hole, it should fall out, if there Is something, so its a woodruff shaped hole then main pin still holds it in and NO dont take a sledgehammer to it, thats why you end up with parts missing.

this is going to be like the advert on TV at the mo Laughing get another towbar, no, no that wont work, get a fox, no,no, take the chicken...

You need another towbar to strip down and use the good ones internals to remove your old one, then rebuild the new one back again and use that one, ISTR you can return none working towbars to ??? for a rebuild, no idea of price or if missing parts will be replaced.

Thumbs Up

Thanks.

yes a polo hole all the way through, nothing to see in the hole at all.

i didnt realise this was an issue until recently, and have done 4 trips to France with an overloaded Thule back box attached Shocked

Since I am going again next week, I thought I had better fix it.

It seems pretty well attached though!

Didnt fix it before I went.

Despite another 2000 miles with what appears nothing holding the towbar on, all was OK.

Still have no idea how to get it off, so I guess it will stay that way.
