Yeap they are soldered in.

I thought you only needed the black rectangular thing on the pointy end for starting. Maybe wrong.
Is it still there ?

I'm not sure if this will help but it is possible to open the car by someone in UK pressing the "unlock" button on your spare key. I have done this whilst holding it next to a mobile phone in an open call to SWIMBO'S phone! You only need to hold your phone over the bonnet near windscreen and await the signal. Might take a few attempts Hope this makes sense Rolling Eyes

Have you got the flat battery facility the same as a D4? hold the key tight under the steering column?

Any manual key option?

Well I thought this would raise an eyebrow or two Shocked but I wouldn't have believed it NARPY until I tried it on my D3 and SWIMBO'S Audi A3 and it worked on both!
Mythbusting or otherwise I can only impart my own experience Wink

Small update... I removed the battery and it was dead.
I found a similar battery 3v but non rechargeable.
This did seem to be a step forward but would only operate the lock and unlock. I was able to clear the fault but not for long.
I have arranged to get the spare sent over.... we shall wait and see how long that is.
So I have my caravan on a site and the car in a car park half a mile away.
Thanks for all the reply’s and yes lesson learned, normally I am better prepared.

Did you have any luck once the wet key was thoroughly dried out or is it now deader than a dead thing?

I was only able to get the “wet key”to open and shut the doors and set the alarm.
No amount of drying would activate the immobiliser.
I think I will be buying a new key with electronics and coding it myself with the iid Very Happy
