I would have thought that the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, rather than the diesel version, could be ideal.
I have looked at the Outlander PHEV more than once as a replacement for my Disco 3; in the end I bought a D4, but undoubtedly my next new daily driver will be an EV of some sort.
Good luck - keep us posted.

The MK3 Outlander did away with the flip down tail gate and has a solid boot lip alas. This makes putting a cage in the back difficult, and it's just not as good for getting the dogs in and out.
If dogs were not in the mix.. I agree a PHEV would be a replacement option... 1 TR6 Rusting away quietly

If you want to dip your toes into D3 ownership without breaking the bank, then I'm be selling my Old Bus. She's 2005 S manual (lower VED) with a D4 facelift, has done 232,000 miles and is the most stupidly reliable car ever.
I look after her mechanically and have years and years of receipts - she's a bit like Triggers broom (I've owned her since new in March 2005). If you want to check her MOT history the reg is WU05WKM. You can also look through my posts on here to see my comments about her.
All the belts have been done, she's regularly serviced and well maintained. New compressor, clutch, DMF, EPB module, discs and pads, front and middle seats and lots of other bits incl service gets in past 18months. She's not perfect, she's a bit bruised, but not dented after 14 years of daily use, but actually she scrubs up well given a wash and brush up.
I will be sad to see her go because she's almost part of the family and has taken us on many adventures.
I'm away at the moment but i'll post some pictures up when I get back. She's in for an MOT on Friday.
Looking for £2500 hopefully with 12 months MOT. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
