Thanks for the replies and possible pic's. So it can be done! I had an ARB with my winch on the D3 but it changed the feel of the steering wheel a lot. The car was noticeably heavy on the steeringwheel so I'd like to do it different this time. White MY2011 SDV6 HSE

Ooh, nice 8) I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Two weekends ago, I installed a 12,000 lb capacity Mile Marker hydraulic winch on my D4 (haven't yet connected the electrical and hydraulic power supplies just yet). This winch may be a bit bigger than other winches and some "trimming" was required to get it all to fit:
1. Maybe this is just Oz and hot climates, but there's a cooler in front of the radiator that required Uncle Ray's discrete which mount to be shimmed further forward by 12mm to keep from crushing the cooler.
2. Since the winch mount extended 12mm further forward, I had to trim back both sides of the front of the winch mount to fit behind the bumper.
3. The small vertical electrical to hydraulic solenoid interfered with the upper steel tube above the bumper. This necessitated some grinding work on said tube (wife cannot fathom taking a grinder to such an expensive vehicle).
I'll get some photos in the setup in a week or so - currently travelling (via air, not via D4 ) Jim Dowell - D4 HSE TDi, 12,000 hydraulic winch & hidden winch mount, MTRs, TyreDog, Traxide 2 x aux battery system, fixed air compressor, Dolium roof rack, MitchHitch.
