HIDS4U Headlight conversion kit - Fitting advice please!

Dear all,

I have purchased a kit from HID's 4U to do both the main and dip beam lights on the D4, and whilst the instruction manual appears to be very thorough, I was wondering if anyone had any tips or do's/don'ts before I begin the task!

Also, how long did it take those that have fitted the kit to do so? Just trying to work out how long to set aside for it - a day? an evening? Just so I don't start it and find I'm out of time and have no lights!!!!!

Thank you for your pearls of wisdom in advance!

Stu

I have just done it on my defender and it took an hour to do and the result is brilliant - literally.

The main things to think about are where to locate the ballast and if you need to modify the dust covers for the bulbs. Other than that its plug and play.

Fitted a set a few weeks ago, took about an hour. Make sure you test them before you refit the headlight or you will have to remove it all again. Ask me how I know Rolling Eyes
Use the guide on here it's quite thorough.

When i did my headlights i managed to get the ballast inside the light, stuck to the base, this meant no issues with water ingress or cutting the covers
If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Thanks for the tips, but has anyone fitted both main and dipped beams to their d4? Can't seem to find a suitable location for the second box to go!

Ok, got the locations sorted out for where the boxes should go, but after an extended night drive tonight including some back roads I'm wondering if having HID lights for high beam is actually legal? They take a couple of seconds to be up to full brightness, whereas a normal bulb doesn't.

Thoughts please?

That's why most main beam hid are a combined bulb with the switching from low to main controlled by a shutter mechanism rather than waiting for an individual hid bulb to 'warm up'

Legality wise I have no idea Confused

I have a kit up for sale now if anyone is interested in purchasing!

I don't believe there would be an issue fitting the D3, perhaps someone could clarify please?

I'll PM you a price in a min mate.

Worth just reading the Hids4u small print regarding legality. I guess the risk is pretty small but it does state that they are not strictly road legal and sold for off road use only...

Im no expert but as understand it xenon lamps need to be self levelling internally and have washers fitted, but some imports had neither ie subaru imprezas and there are others.
We used to have a couple of mercs on coil suspension and they had sensors front and rear for the headlamps to work out what was going on, the c class were good the e class less so.

Internal self levelling not required when they are levelled externally.
