HILL ASSIST MODIFICATION
is it possible to reprogramme the hill assist to be like the audi auto hold. to come on automatically when stationary and release when the accelerator is pressed. i dont see why it should not be possible to reprogramme it to stay on for a longer period.
has anyone tried this?

IMHO not useful, good just for mummy SUV, not in offroad.
I prefer to decide when to insert it

HDC is part of the ABS system and as such is a safety critical system. There is absolutely no way that you can interfere with the program in memory and change it to suit your requirements.
Also, the hill hold function you are mentioning is available on the later vehicles fitted with Stop Start but it is only active for 2 seconds as any prolonged operation of the solenoids will cause permanent damage.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

indeed it does … however, I do find it annoying that to go from neutral to drive I have to press the brake pedal. SWMBO's VX Antara lets me move the gear lever without touching the brake … much easier when setting off from traffic lights IMHO..

you could disable the interlock solenoid to allow movement without the brake being pressedPete

yes and no … if I'm in drive I'm using more fuel (and causing wear& tear ) than if I'm in neutral, so better in neutral but then need to brake before setting off. much harder to p1$$ of the kids in "hot hatches".
