The Holiday is Over

Just got back from our 2 week jolly.

Covered 3900 miles - with only the existing problems with my D3 (suspension sinking and the Low Cooling Level warning - booked at dealers on Thursday). We stopped most of the time in VaconSoleil tents for just 2 or 3 nights before moving on.

Started off in Oldham, through the Tunnel (not driving) and up to near Amsterdam. 604 miles - 16 hours in and around the car.
Amsterdam was excellent as it was their Tall Ships festival.
After a couple of nights near Amsterdam, drove up into Denmark and up to the top almost Aalbourg (sort of level with Aberdeen). Only 580 miles.
Three night stop there then down Denmark and across to Copenhagen. All the Islands are joined up so you go across 10 mile long bridges - which really is like crossing the sea.
During this 3 night stop over, we popped across to Sweden for 1/2 a day, just because it was there and there was another of these spectacularly long bridges (and a tunnel bit). Did 350miles just on the outing alone.
From Copenhagen only a short journey to central Denmark and another 3 night stop over. Took the kids to Legoland - far better than the Windsor version (propably biased as the weather was excellent).
Then from there to Hamburg (hotel this time).
Hamburg to a campsite near Eindhoven (for the night).
Then one long haul back from Eindhoven via a Ferry between Calais and Dover and back up to Oldham.

Most long journeys were done as constant trips, with only stops for fuel and general watering and restocking of snacks and drinks.

Front seats were uncomfortable, but we got used to that (seeing as were in them for hours at a time).

Junior Coffeecup was required to wear Travel Sickness bracelets all the time in the car.... and they worked wonderfully - though she wasn't happy about having them on. There was only one incident of her being sick, and that was when she had taken the bracelets off and refused to put them back on. We left her be, and 10 minutes later up came breakfast.

Dropping the height off the roof-rack seems to have gained us 1 mpg. Consumption was about 26.5 mpg, but I wasn't hanging around on the motorways (Hit the limiter on the German Autobahn in 6th gear at an indicated 115 - probably 105mph)
The vehicle was great. It did us proud.

Nice to near that you enjoyed Denmark. Its a great country in which to unwind in. We have fond memories of the comfortable ferry from Harwich to Esberg. I tried the bands but eventually found Boot's own hyoscine containg tabs really good and guess what they sedate, what bliss!
