Holly Grail?

Hi I'm a newbie to this forum but not to a Disco!

I used to own a 50th limited edition V8 but marriage forced sale! And to be honest I have not got over it!!

I am looking for D3 2.7 diesel XS or HSE spec, would prefer colour coded bumpers and sub 100,000 miles with full service history, and 2 or less owners!

And I have a budget of £10k but would like to have 1k in the bank as a buffer so purchase price of £9k.

Is this going to be possible or should I consider higher mileage cars?

I want to keep this for as long as possible, I don't do high mileage each year but we do have long trips away in our caravan so tow bar would also be a bonus.

I keep looking on hear as would prefer it to come from a more trusted source if private. But all high mileage examples so far. Big Cry

Any recommendations as to where to look other than Autotrader or fleabag?

Forget mileage, its about how it has been maintained that is important. Higher mileage cars will also have had less stop start strain put on them than low mileage, short journey cars.

You could also squeeze the budget and get this:

I have a Saab 9-3 on nearly 200,000 miles, so I am not worried about mileage. However I want to have a good starting base and low mileage so I can keep it for many years.

Although the engine is fine with 200,000 miles all the other moving parts are not so more stuff will need replacing I suppose.

I was looking at a 2010 d4 and the economy of the 3.0 litre is better and I prefer the facelift looks, but to get A low mileage example it's over my budget and I would not have a buffer for repairs. So would need warranty.

Also isn't the 2.7 a better engine? Bit like the 200 to 300 debate I suppose?

Personally I'd buy this D4 and you can always face lift later on. Personally its better to but a known members car rather than something that no one knows anything about from a dealer or eBay etc. There are plenty of horror stories on here of members who did just that. Sad

I bought my 2009 D3 with 96k miles (iirc) last autumn from a dealer for a little over £9.5K I think. I had looked at several and they were all wrecks with poor service history, or had big warning signs with them like mould growing up the windows etc. The one I found was in superb condition and had been landrover maintained and stamped up to date.

I was over due the cambelt service which I budgeted for, and that set me back about £1400 with new brakes. So a total of £11k all in, for a very good condition, sub 100k mile car, with the big service recently done.

About a month into ownership I noticed it kept going into limp mode with lots of lights and scary bongs, and the first time it happened, I was by sheer co-incidence about 300mtrs from the dealer so dropped in on him to show him! I think he knew I wasn't going away so he paid the £1200 for the new high pressure fuel pump to be swapped, and what could have been a horror story for me was actually a lucky escape.

It's now done about a little under 102k miles, and it's been faultless. I really cant speak highly enough of it. So good ones are out for around the £10k mark and I guess you just have to find them.

Had one with an LPG conversation, spent more time in a garage filling it up than driving it!
