Holy Island Causeway

One to test the D3's wading depth perhaps...

A bit belated but we drove out to Holy Island in Lindisfarne which is a fascinating place. Of course you have to cross at safe times of day as the causeway is otherwise completely submerged at high tide and it catches many out.

I noticed they had a Defender 110 recovery vehicle on standby Thumbs Up

Anyone else been across?

I have been many times on that same causeway great place to visit. The last time I was there is this year in September and while I was getting my ticket for the car park at the castle, a lady came up to me and asked me do I know what time the tide is, I replied did you not check before coming across, she said no because it seems such a short road to get here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..

We went in the summer (?) - almost as much chance of drowning from the amount of rain falling as from the incoming tide!

I've been over there - a few years back before I got the D3 though.

I wonder what the shallowest high tide is? More than 27" .... Whistle

Been there several times now, and quite a few in the D3 but would never attempt trying to cross when the tide was up. It gets pretty deep and the current in the main channel is quite ferocious.

Has anybody ever been across the Passage du Gois? It's in the north of the Vendee and links mainland France to the Island of Noirmoutier? Now there's a causeway for you, just over 4 kilometers long and well worth a visit . You have to be quick though as you only get 90 mins of crossing time either side of low tide - barely enough time to do what the French do and go digging for shellfish in the sand, or spering flatfish in the waterfilled channels.
Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills Smile

Been there several times, both in D2 and D3. Beautiful place. The Northumberland coast is one of my favourite places to visit.

Went over in August (nearly said "summer" Laughing ) spent a week based near Alnwick - beautiful part of the world but regardless of the tide it was bl Censored y wet!! Upon return to home had to visit the stealer for new wipers the noise definitely got the better of me that week.
Spent an enjoyable day on Holy Island but certainly didn't fancy testing out the Disco's wading depth!
 ALTERNATIVES...............No alternatives for off-road capability.
If you want Surrey plush, go for a Range Rover. If you want Manchester bling it's the Range Rover Sport. But if it's a seven-seat, go anywhere 4x4, it's time to Disco.
