Homelink retrofit

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is an option of retro fitting the "Homelink" mirror to my 09 XS, I have searched the usually efficient eBay to see if there are any for sale to no avail, however there are web references to alternative mirrors, does anyone have any experience of retro fitting these.

The dealer in Guildford has quoted me a figure of £400 for the mirror which I think is extortionate

Any thoughts or ideas ?

I'm not sue if d4's are the same, but I put a Homelink mirror in my D3 it was easy. I bought the mirror from eBay and the wiring was there for it to be connected. If there are Homelink mirrors for D4's I bet the wiring is there to support the addition.

Thanks for that, i am wondering if its true that I read somewhere that European cars have different frequencies to you guys and the Homelink mirror cant be retro fitted, although the dealer quoted me for one I didn't mention that I hadn't simply broken my old one, maybe I should speak with them and ask if the cables are there in place and if its a straight swap ? there is bound to be issues with the canbus not liking it.

Anyways, thanks for the response.

Cant see why there would be any can bus wiring ...it would just be a power source ..all the remote stuff would be in the mirror

Thanks Wiggs,

I will "pm" you shortly because I have noticed your footer and the ECU upgrades.

Frequencies are the issue here………

I looked into this back in days of my 300TDi ownership. There was a knacky little unit that fitted above the mirror on the U.S. models with three Homelink buttons. I couldn’t get any information here or in the U.K on the unit & given that this was in the days before the wonderful resource of widespread online forums, it was rather difficult to get info from any further than my local LR dealer.

Any way, a mate of mine went to work in upstate New York for the summer , so I explained what I was after & showed him a picture of the unit I had from a magazine. During his stay in NY he went into a LR dealer sourced the unit & mailed it home to me. However my delight on receiving the unit was short lived, as I was unable to get the Homelink unit to “learn” from my gate remote. The issue being that gate & garage door remotes work on a different frequency than those here in Europe & as a result weren’t compatible.

I did think of looking at buying a couple of gate opening receivers in the States & fitting them to the gate controls, which would have the correct frequencies to be compatible with the Homelink unit, but never did in the end.

There are after market mirrors that clip on over your existing mirror with homelink buttons available, but I’ve always thought they look bulky & quite frankly “Aftermarket”.

There is a Homelink Europe website, they do seem to list Land Rover as vehicles they offer units for, so that might be worth a looksee.

This has raised my interest in this option again, so I might just see what I can find out at my dealer.

My Homelink mirror might be my best mod/addition to my D3. I've never programmed my Homelink mirror for anything other than the garage, but I believe its possible to program for house lights and other options with a receiver they sell seperately.

Thanks Guys,

Its just shows the power of the internet that you can learn more from people all over the globe in 1 afternoon than 3 visits and numerous calls to LR dealer! Thumbs Up

I have trawled this forum this afternoon and found several posts that have been of great interest and very helpful.

I might have to clear my diary for tomorrow and read the rest. very addictive.

Thanks again for the responses.

Thought about ordering Homelink system also in my D4 - but found this to be good enough an much cheaper:

It's the Hoermann HSZ2 transmitter to be placed in the ciggy lighter. Works perfect with 2 different doors.

we have Hoerman doors and tried that, the unit we had is battery and not powered by the axillary power from the car, best check it out as ours failed and even a new battery didnt help.

I didn't say its powered by ciggy lighter Mr. Green. My wife also had an issue with their unit, but removing the battery for 24 hours and re-learning solved this.

Its a normal rear view mirror but with builtin remote control (transmitter and 3 switches) to open/close garage doors, turn lights on etc. See www.homelink.com for further details.
