Just a quick question about the Satnav in the HSE.
Does it give up to date road traffic information like roadworks, accidents etc, or is it purely a Satnav?

If you are in a region that has TMC (Traffic Message Channel), which I assume you are (UK)... you can receive live traffic updates that will allow automatic re-routing.

But I am afraid its like most things that are human controlled, only as good as the human. TMC is far from reliable, to the point that I generally now ignore the re-route reqests, and usually I am glad I did. Sometimes catches me out, but the typist at the TMC centre is slow to add events, and slow to remove them.
Another flaw is that you cannot review the new route before accepting it, unless you happen to be stopped. The re-route message dissapears after a few seconds.

Cheers Gareth. Ive a feeling that this is something that the old XC90 did better than the Disco3

I don't think its a Disco3 thing, I just reckon the TMC network is not as slick as it could be. As far as I know, its not an automated system, it relies on Classic FM broadcasting area codes to notify the system of problems.
The roadworks at J18 of the M6 were still on TMC 10 weeks after they finished. Everytime I came up the M6 it tried to make me exit at J17. Surely this was just slack updating by whoever' s job it is to keep on top of these things.

I found a very similar thing when I had a TrafficMaster screen in my last car, I am of the opinion that these type of devices are an extra aid and combined with the usually radio traffic reports over time you get to know if what it is telling you is the truth. Andy - 2006 HSE TDV6

Related question .....
I have the standard Satnav in my SE and wondered if it was simply a software upgrade or a hardware change that differed between the SE and HSE systems. also, does the traffic warning thingy work on the SE version (or am I out of luck again!)
Does anyone know?
Thanks

I was taking a Disco HSE back to a dealer last week and got snarled up on the M25 - the TMC was less than useless to be honest, and I ended up switching off the navi and following my nose.
I have used it in other cars outside of the south east and it has always been OK, but the main problem is that roads generally snarl up so quickly, you have hit the traffic before TMC gets updated.
