Should I?

HI all. I am new to both this forum and Discos.

I am considering buying an ex demo d3 as I tow regularly. I currently have a Volvo xc70 (02 ) which copes admirably with my horsebox and one rather large horse, however I need something with a bit more grunt.

I have more or less made my choice but having read lots of reports there appears to be a multitude of problems. Are the newer d3's as unreliable as I fear?

Any feedback would be great.

Andy

I love mine and like you bought it because we will be towing horses, however I have to say It has been a nightmare, over 30 issues and 18 months in and still they are having it back about once every 3 weeks.... at this rate the car will have been replaced part by part Laughing .....2500 miles just in trips to the dealer Shocked

my tip would be go for it if you have a good waranty with it and read through the known issues on here and make it a condition of purchase it has had the relavent updates done.... e.g. rear wiper, compressor, tyres arent worn abnormally (new set free if so) etc. etc.

For the first week, throroughly play with every gadget (esp, cruise control if you have it) and ensure everything is ok Wink

The usual 'British disease' applies - we whinge more than praise, an ex-demo should be reliable - you wouldn't want to sell a car based upon a faulty demo car would you?
Most of the issues with disco3's are software related - pretty much the same as windoze and look how many computers run that!

Get an extended test drive from your dealer - even towing if necessary, to quote an old Vauxhall ad. "Once driven - forever smitten" Wink

I bought a 3 month old ex-demo, with just under 2800 on the clock in January and got a great deal. It has had to go back to the dealer just once because of a brake pad sensor.

Absolutely love the car and can't fault it. I do a lot of towing of a boat weighing around 1800Kg. Had the Discovery 2 before the D3 and it did the job...but the D3 doesn't even know it's there and on a 200 mile round trip to the coast I can do 20mpg...

Do yourself a favour and buy one! Bow down Chawton White

Any issues that we might have had have done nothing other than to help build character and an intimate knowledge of the vehicle. Very Happy Thumbs Up

Do we sound biased? You bet! That's because this is one fantastic car. Its good points far outweigh its bad points.

You will not regret it - get one and enjoy Zambezi Silver

I came from Volvo to D3 and am on my second car in 8 months. They are a great machine to drive and great when they are working but don't expect Volvo quality and reliability. My 500 mile D3 is in the dealer next week for problems to be fixed and then it's on 6 months probation, any more problems I'll be trading it in for an XC90. Might not be anything like the D3 off-road but it's big, safe and after over 100,000 miles in my last xc90 I only ever visited the dealer for servicing.

NO don't buy one........stick with the XC90.

There is too many D3's on the road and the residuals will be hit big time soon.

I have base model D3 that was a factory demo with 4,000 miles on it when I found it. I love it, and it's been fine. I go to the dealer more than any other car I own, but it's for minor figgly stuff, all under warrenty.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Have been towing horses around Scotland or over 30 years now and the D3 is by FAR the best towing vehicle I have purchased so far. Have an 06 base model, and cant fault it, 5000 miles and not a problem, wouldn't swap it for anything, smooth, comfortable, loads of grunt. Even better than the Disco2. Yes you get problem vehicles, but thats life. Go for it you wont be dissapointed.
